Juniperus chinensis extract induces apoptosis via ROS generation in human pancreatic cancer cell lines
- Abstract
- Pancreatic cancer is one of the dreadful tumors. Less symptoms or signs at early stage cause over a half of patients has distant metastases, which leads resistance to cancer therapies. In this study, we found Juniperus chinensis extract (JCX) inhibited the cell viability and migration activity of PANC-1 and SNU-213 in a dose-dependent manner. JCX increased capase-3 activation, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) treatment blocked anti-viability activity of JCX and JCX -induced ROS generation. In
addition, JCX downregulated the levels of p-FAK/FAK and p-ERK/ERK. Altogether, these results indicated that JCX induced apoptosis in human pancreatic cancer cell lines via ROS generation and downregulation of FAK/ERK signaling and activation of caspase-3. We suggest the JCX-derived compounds could be an alternative medicine candidate for pancreatic cancer treatment.
