일본 애니메이션 속 외국인 캐릭터의 발화에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구에서는 중국인 캐릭터가 등장하는 애니메이션 ≪은혼≫과, 미국인 캐릭터가 등장하는 애니메이션 ≪슈타인즈 게이트 제로≫를 자료로 삼아, 각각의 애니메이션에서 해당 캐릭터가 중국인과 미국인임을 표현하기 위해 사용된 역할어의 사용실태에 대해 조사・분석하였다. 조사 결과, ≪은혼≫에서는 캐릭터가 중국인임을 나타내기 위해 전체 발화문장 중 약 44%의 문장에서 「アル」가 사용되었는데, 「アル」직전에 위치한 단어는 활용하지 않는 명사인 경우가 많았으며, 선행연구에서 지적되어 온 <단정>, <질문>이외에도 <명령> 및 종조사「ヨ」, 「ゾ」의 의미・용법으로 사용되는 경우가 관찰되었다. 미국인 캐릭터임을 나타내기 위해 사용된 역할어에 관해서는 ≪슈타인즈 게이트 제로≫를 대상으로 캐릭터 발화 중 음성적 특징에 주목하여 분석하였다. 그 결과, 일본어에서 나타나는 모라 리듬의 발음이 아닌 영어의 강세 리듬에 근접한 발음이 관찰되었으며, 영어 발음과 유사하게 자음이 연속적으로 발음되거나 음절이 자음으로 끝나는 경우, 일본어에서는 장음으로 발음되는 이중모음이 영어 원어에 가까운 발음으로 발화되는 경우, ラ행 자음이 탄설음 [ɾ]이 아닌 영어의 후치경접근음 [ɹ]으로 발화되는 경우 등이 관찰되었다. 기존의 역할어 연구는 서기언어에 기반해온 반면, 본고에서는 애니메이션 속 외국인 캐릭터가 발화한 음성언어에 주목하고 있다는 점에서 차별화되며, 역할어의 문법적 특징뿐만 아니라 서기언어에서는 다룰 수 없었던 음성적 특징에 대해서도 분석하고 있다는 점에서 연구의 의의가 높다고 여겨진다. 다만 국가별로 한 명의 캐릭터만을 조사 대상으로 삼은 관계로 조사 결과가 다른 애니메이션 속 중국인, 미국인 캐릭터에게도 공통적으로 적용될 수 있는지 여부에 대해서는 알 수 없어 향후 여러 애니메이션을 대상으로 동일 국가의 캐릭터들의 발화를 분석할 필요가 있다. 덧붙여 외국인 캐릭터의 역할어 사용은 국가에 따라 다른 양상을 보일 가능성이 크므로 중국・미국 이외 국가의 캐릭터를 대상으로도 그 실태에 대해 고찰하고자 한다.|The study analyzed the use of yakuwarigo (role language) in Gintama and Steins;Gate 0, which feature a Chinese and an American character, respectively, to indicate the characters nationality. It was found that “ARU(アル)” was used in approximately 44% of the total sentences uttered by the Chinese character in Gintama. The words immediately preceding “ARU” were often nouns, which thus were not conjugated. The meaning and usage of “command” and the final articles “YO(ヨ)” and “ZO(ゾ)” were used in addition to “assertion” and “question”, which have been noted in previous studies. Regarding Steins;Gate 0, we noted the phonetic features of the characters utterances used to indicate that the character was American, which included pronunciations closer to the accent rhythm of English than to the mora rhythm of Japanese. It was also observed that consonants were pronounced consecutively with consonants or syllables ending with a consonant, similar to English pronunciation; diphthongs, which are pronounced as long pure vowels in Japanese, were pronounced closer to the original English pronunciation; and consonants /r/ were pronounced as the post-alveolar approximant [ɹ] in English, rather than as the flap [ɾ]. This study differs from previous studies on yakuwarigo, which were based on the written language, by focusing on the spoken language of the foreign characters in the anime series, and it is significance in that it analyzes not only the grammatical but the phonetic features of yakuwarigo that cannot be covered in the written language. Since only one character per country was examined in this study, however, it is unknown whether this study’s results are applicable to Chinese and American characters in other anime series. Hence, future research should analyze utterances by characters from the same country in other anime series. Furthermore, as the use of yakuwarigo by foreign characters is likely to differ by country, a future study will review the status of characters from countries other than China and the United States.
