A Study on the Acceptance Factors of u-Health Service : using TAM
Abstract
With the significant development of ICT technology, convergence between everyday life and IT service became one of the inevitable part of peoples lives.
This study also seeks to provide implications that will be helpful to u-Health service providers and users by identifying demand factor of u-Health, one of the IT convergence services.
To this end, I referred Technology Acceptance Model(TAM),which is previous studies on u-Health service and IT-related fields. Among them, I chose the David's TAM model and induced factors that can influence on the acceptance of u-Health service.
In this process, individual variables such as quality of service, personal innovation, social influence, mobility, connectivity, user-friendless, self-efficacy were induced and it provided opportunities to explore its influences on the acceptance of u-Health service.
The study findings are as follows:
First, personal innovation, mobility didn't influence on user's perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use. It can be said that personal innovation is not a consideration for using services because respondents had been using off-line healthcare management system and it provides very valuable service known as healthcare. Also, mobility or space concept is not a priority for using u-Health service.
Second, users tend to use u-Health service when the quality of u-Health service is high and it has strong social influence. In addition, users also took advantage of u-Health service when they are aware of the fact that they are easily familiar with using u-Health service and helpful to their work performance and efficiency.
Third, like prior researches of the TAM, "Easy of Use" affects "Usefulness." "Usefulness" and "Easy of Use" have an influence on "Attitude" and "Attitude" affects "Behavioral Intention to Use." As a result, the more people believe u-Health service is convenient, the more they are aware of usefulness of the service. Additionally, convenient and useful service makes people positive about u-Health, which also spurs Intention to Use.
In conclusion, u-Health service providers should design user-friendly system and handset interface and need to take account of user's connectivity, which is 'anytime', thereby increasing social influence of u-Health service.
