곶자왈 숲 생태 체험 학습을 통한 초등학생의 환경감수성 변화에 관한 연구

Abstract

숲은 생태계의 원형을 그대로 품은 채 우리에게 많은 이로움을 주고 있다. 제주도 곶자왈 숲은 희귀식물의 보고로 생태적 가치가 크다. 그러나 최근 건물 신축, 골프장 건설 등 개발로 인해 곶자왈 원시림은 원형을 잃어가고 있어 지역의 환경문제로 제기되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 지역 특이적 학습 경관인 곶자왈을 대상으로 초등학생의 환경에 대한 관심과 환경감수성 함양을 위해 놀이 중심의 곶자왈 숲 생태 체험 학습 프로그램을 개발하였다. 개발된 프로그램이 환경감수성에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위하여 제주도 서귀포시의 A초등학교 4학년 학생을 대상으로 생태 체험 학습을 실시하여 체험학습 전과 체험학습 후의 환경감수성 변화를 알아보았다. 개발된 프로그램을 가지고 체험 학습을 수행한 실험반은 이론 수업을 한 비교반에 비하여 곶자왈 숲에 대한 관심, 감수성, 환경보전 실천의지 전 영역에서 환경감수성이 유의미하게 향상됨을 알 수 있었다. 아울러 실험반에 국한하여 적용한 탐구 영역 평가 및 체험학습 후의 정성적 영역 검사에서도 학생들이 환경에 대한 관심과 실천 의지가 향상되었음을 알 수 있었다. 이에 본 연구의 오감을 자극하는 놀이 중심의 생태 체험 학습이 학생들의 환경감수성 및 환경의식에 큰 영향을 미치는 점으로 보아 학생들이 흥미를 갖고 직접 참여할 수 있는 다양한 생태 체험 학습 프로그램 개발이 필요하다. 특히 지역 특이적 체험학습장을 활용한 프로그램 개발에 관심을 가져야 하며, 체험학습 이후 형성된 학생들의 환경감수성을 일회적인 체험학습에 머물지 않고 생활 속에서 계속 실천되고 환류될 수 방안을 강구해야 하겠다.

Forest is giving that much benefits from it for us while holding the original form of the ecosystem. Jeju Gotjawal forest has the important value ecologically as a treasure house of the valuable plants. However, recently it is losing the original form of its primeval forest, and is raising as an environmental problem by development of building and golf course construction, and so on. As one of the casting plans to improve the environmental susceptibility of the students, the aims of this study are to develop and apply a Nature Game program for the ecological experience learning in Jeju Gotjawal forest and analyze the environmental susceptibility change of the students to show in the ecological experience learning actually. The results obtained in 4th graders of A elementary school of Seogwipo-city are as follows: It was found that attention, susceptibility and practice will of environment protection for forest environment of the experimental class were significantly higher than those of the comparison class. And it was found that interest and curiosity into forest environment were also elevated in the results of the qualitative evaluation, suggesting that we could get the effect of developed Nature Game program on ecological experience learning. If various ecological experience learning programs considering the regional-specific characteristics are developed to cause students' interest and curiosity, students would come to participate in the protection activity of environment aggressively a little more.
