Abstract

Children of the U. S. A. celebrates the diversity of the U. S. A. by visiting fifty-one cities-one in each state, as well as the nation's capital, Washington D. C. We can meet kids playing, learning, and just being kids in parks, neighborhood centers, and homes. As new immigrants groups add their customs to the mix of cultural traditions, the American fabric becomes ever stronger and more colorful. These photos and stories featuring bright and beautiful children show how all of these threads are woven into a diverse tapestry, patterned with tolerance and respect. This book presents aspects of more than one hundred cultural, ethnic, or religious groups. It gives a glimpse of what life is like for kids living in the ever-changing mix that makes up the United States. The Children of the U. S. A. are connected to children around the globe through family heritage, cultural traditions, and the hope for a fair, peaceful future. The tolerance and respect they learn from their own country's diversity may be the best gift they can share with the world.
