미술비평을 통한 초등학교 미술 감상 교육에 관한 연구

Abstract

오늘날 급속히 변화하는 문화 정보화 시대에 범람하는 이미지의 홍수 속에서 살고 있으며 현대 사회는 비판적 사고능력을 갖춘 성숙한 시민을 요구하고 있다. 이러한 시대에 무엇보다 중요해지는 것은 자신에게 필요하고 즐길 수 있는 정보와 문화를 선택하여 향유할 수 있는 능력일 것이다. 특히 시각 정보 매체들에 대한 비판적 사고 능력은 시각예술을 다루는 미술 교과에서 효과적으로 길러 질 수 있고, 그 중에서도 감상을 통해서라고 할 수 있으며, 미술비평은 하나의 방법이 될 수 있다. 제7차 교육과정에서도 감상 교육을 강조하고 있다. 하지만 현재 초등학교의 감상수업은 제대로 이루어지지 않고 있으며 감상수업 중 미술비평이 차지하는 비중 또한 높지 않다. 그러므로 본 연구는 미술 교과에서 바람직한 미술 감상지도와 미술비평에 대한 문헌연구와 교육과정 분석, 그리고 미술비평을 통한 감상수업모형을 현장에 적용하여 그 결과 분석을 바탕으로 초등미술에서 비평 감상을 통한 감상 교육을 실천할 수 있는 방안을 찾아보았다. 그 결과를 정리해 보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 미술비평을 통한 감상 교육이 진행됨에 따라 아동들이 미술에 대한 관심이 높아졌으며 작품을 관찰하고 분석하는 과정에서 자신 있는 태도를 보였다. 또한 작품이 말하고자 하는 의도가 무엇인가를 파악하려고 노력함으로써 감상학습에 적극적으로 참여하는 모습을 보였다. 둘째, 작품과의 대화를 통한 감상 교육을 통해 작품을 감상하면서 조형 요소와 원리를 이해하며 작품을 분석하고 평가하는 감상 안목을 높여주었다. 또한 어떤 재료로 표현했는지, 어떤 표현 방법을 활용했는지, 독특한 기법은 무엇이며, 재료와 표현 방법을 살펴보는 것을 통해 학생들이 작품을 올바르게 이해하는데 도움이 되었다. 셋째, 다양한 감상 교육의 기회를 제공함으로써 우리 나라와 다른 나라의 미술작품에 흥미와 관심을 갖게 됨으로써 다양한 시각에서 작품을 바라볼 수 있는 안목을 키울 수 있는 감상학습 방안이었다. 넷째, 미술작품에 대한 자신의 생각과 친구들의 생각을 서로 비교하는 감상 활동을 통해 흥미를 갖고 참여함으로써 새로운 자아를 발견하게 되었고, 창의적이며 비평적인 안목을 갖게 되었다. 다섯째, 사고의 깊이가 깊어지고 대상을 주의 깊게 관찰, 분석하고 적극적으로 의견을 나누는 태도와 작품을 보는 관점이 다양해졌으며 미술이란 단지 그리는 미술이 아닌 보고, 느끼고, 재창조하는 과정임을 깨닫고 미술작품에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓혀 나갔다. 이를 통해 미술비평을 통한 감상학습은 미술작품에 관심을 갖고 감상하고 표현해봄으로써 심미적인 인간으로 성장하며, 자신의 잠재력을 마음껏 발휘하여 미래사회에서 요구하는 창의적인 인간으로 성장하는데 도움을 줄 수 있다는 점에서 의미 있는 연구였다. 이러한 미술비평을 통한 감상 교육이 효과를 높이기 위해서는 먼저 지도교사가 미술비평의 중요성을 인식하고 미술비평 방법을 효과적으로 지도할 수 있는 능력이 필요하다. 또한 다양한 감상 자료를 개발하여 현장 교사들이 쉽게 활용할 수 있는 방안에 대한 많은 연구와 자료 수집이 있어야 하겠다.

Today's live in cultural and informational age with the flood of images, which is changing very rapidly. Mordern society requests the matured citizens who have a critical thinking ability. The most important thing in this age can be the ability to choose and enjoy information and culture needed to ourselves. Especially, this critical thinking ability for this mass visual media could be nourished effectively by art education dealing with visual arts mostly through art appreciation and criticism. The 7th National Curriculum is also emphasizing appreciation education. Currently, however, the appreciation class is not executed properly in elementary school and the importance of art criticism is not high in the appreciation class either. Therefore, this study reviewed literature on desirable teaching of art appreciation and art criticism and analyzed the contents of the curriculum. Furthermore, it applied an appreciation class model through art criticism in actual classes and, based on the results, made suggestions for appreciation education through critical appreciation in elementary art. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, as appreciation education was executed through art criticism, children's interest in art increased and they showed confidence in observing and analyzing art works. Moreover, they participated in appreciation actively by making efforts to understand what art works intend to express. Second, appreciation activities through conversation with art works helped students appreciate the art works and understand formative elements and principles, and refined their sense of appreciation for analyzing and evaluating art works. What is more, students attained right understanding of art works through examining materials, expression methods, unique techniques, and the use of materials and expression styles. Third, the appreciation class model provided various opportunities for appreciation education, which stimulated students' interest in Korean and foreign art works and developed their eye to see art works from diverse viewpoints. Fourth, students participated with interest in appreciation activities, in which they compared their opinions on art works with others' and, in the course, they rediscovered themselves and acquired a creative and critical eye. Fifth, students came to think deeply, to observe and analyze objects carefully, to exchange opinions openly, and to view art works in different aspects. Furthermore, they learned that the art is not just drawing pictures but also is a process of appreciating, feeling and recreating, and expanded their understanding of art works. This study is considered meaningful in the sense that it demonstrated that appreciation class through art criticism contributes to the growth of children into an aesthetic and creative person demanded in future society by helping them take interest in art works, appreciate and express such works, and display their potentials to the full. In order to enhance the effects of appreciation education through art criticism, the teachers need to recognize the importance of art criticism and to have abilities to teach art criticism methods effectively. Moreover, more research should be conducted and data should be collected for developing various appreciation materials and providing them to field teachers.
