박물관을 통한 지역문화 활성화 방안

Abstract

대중매체의 발전으로 인한 정보의 증가, 생활수준의 향상은 '삶의 질 향상'에 대한 관심을 증대시켜왔다. 이러한 현상은 문화·예술에 대한 관심을 고조시켰으며 과거 중앙중심이었던 문화·예술분야를 지역중심으로 전환시키는 결과를 가져왔다. 따라서 지역의 문화를 어떻게 활성화 시키는 가는 중요한 과제가 되었으며 이를 위해 박물관의 역할과 중요성이 대두되었다. 박물관은 과거 귀족들의 사유재산에서 출발하여 점차 근대적 의미의 박물관으로 발전되어 왔다. 박물관은 여가선용의 장소일 뿐만 아니라 지역 문화에 대한 다양한 시각들과 욕구들을 체계적으로 충족시키고, 지역주민들에 삶의 질을 향상시킬 수 있어야 한다. 제주도는 지질학적 특성에 의해 독특한 색채의 풍토를 지닌 곳으로, 삶 속에서 발생한 고유의 문화를 가지고 있는 곳이다. 제주지역에는 이러한 제주도의 문화를 연구하고 알릴 수 있는 박물관이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 제주도내의 박물관이 지역의 문화를 연구하고 지역의 주민들과 자료, 정보를 교류하면서, 서로 협력하여 즐거움을 간직하는 장소로써, 지역문화의 중심으로서의 역할을 다하기 위해 보완되어야 할 사항들을 정리하였으며, 도내 박물관 중에서 제주의 돌문화를 주제로 조성하여 운영중인 제주돌문화공원을 선택하여 중점적으로 분석하고 이를 통해 제주의 지역문화 활성화 방안을 제시하였다. 본 연구를 통해 살펴본 결과, 제주지역의 독특한 역사와 문화는 우선 제주도민이 이해하고, 보존하며, 발전시켜야 할 자원임을 알아야 하며, 이러한 활동의 중심에 지역 박물관의 역할과 중요성이 부각되었다. 그리고 지역의 박물관은 지역문화를 활성화시키는데 그 역할을 다하여야 할 것이며, 지역의 박물관을 위해 정부, 지자체 차원의 행·재정적인 지원은 물론 다양한 시각에서 바라보는 다차원적인 연구를 통해 제주문화를 알리고 제주문화에 대한 이해를 폭넓게 하여 제주도민의 문화적 쉼터이자 제주지역 문화의 중추적 역할로써 박물관이 제 역할을 다할 때 지역의 문화는 활성화 되어질 것이다.

As the quantity of information has increased and the condition of life has improved thanks mainly to the development of multi media, the urges to enhance the quality of life has been correspondingly widespread among people today. Accordingly, culture and art has come into the limelight and they are now being more and more decentralized. Therefore, now it has become one of the most important assignments how to activate local cultures. In the course of taking on this assignment rises the importance of museum. Museums once were royalpeople's personal properties, but they gradually changed their forms into what are today's modern styled museums. The museum should be the place not only for pleasure but also for intellectual satisfaction. It should be the place where various needs aremet systemically, and it should contribute to boosting the quality of life as well. Jejudo has both the unique regional climate and culture that is rooted by the people's way of life. Now Jejudo urgently needs a museum where studies of the invaluable culture are conducted and people come and visit to know better about the island through the result of the studies. In this research, some important characteristics of an ideal museum are presented. An ideal museum should play the role as the culture center, where people share and learn things that are closely related to the past, the present and the future of their region. 'Jeju Stone Park'has been chosen to be analyzed for the research, and through this analysis, how to energize Jeju's local culture is suggested. It has been figured out that the Jeju residents should try to show more interest in their region and try to conserve the unique culture of the island, and the museum itself should play a significant role in doing so. In addition, the museum ought to find various ways to meet the local people's needs and liven up the local culture. Finally yet importantly, the central and the local governments have to support the museum both administratively and financially, and the studies that make the most of the museumshould be regularly conducted so as to people can understand more and better about the culture of Jeju island. The activation of the local culture will be attained only when the museum is able to work as a pillar of the culture.
