서귀포 화석층에 대한 초등학생의 기초 탐구 능력 분석

Abstract

현대 사회의 과학과 과학기술 등의 발전으로 학생들이 배우고 습득해야 할 과학적 지식들이 빠른 속도로 증가하고 있다. 그러므로 학생들이 수많은 지식들을 효과적으로 배울 수 있는 과학 탐구 과정의 학습을 통한 과학적 탐구 능력 향상이 매우 중요시되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 학생들의 과학적 탐구 능력을 향상시키기 위한 방안의 하나로 서귀포 화석층을 탐구 대상으로 하여 기초 탐구 과정 프로그램을 개발하고, 실제로 탐구 활동 과정에서 나타나는 학생들의 기초 탐구 능력을 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 제주도 서귀포시의 S초등학교 5학년 2개 반 학생들을 대상으로 화석층에 대해 얻은 탐구 활동의 결과는 다음과 같다. 학생들은 서귀포 화석층을 탐구함에 있어 시각과 촉각 등 적절한 감각 기관을 사용하여 관찰 활동을 수행하였으며, 화석층의 부분적인 모습보다는 전체적인 모습을 관찰하려는 경향이 높음을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 관찰 활동을 통해 얻은 사실들을 분류, 예상, 추리와 같은 다른 기초 탐구 과정 영역에 적절히 활용하는 능력은 낮았다. 게다가 학생들의 가지고 있는 오개념이 탐구 활동에 영향을 미치고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이에 여러 가지 탐구 과정 요소를 사용하여 초등학생들에게 과학적 탐구를 적용함에 있어 각각의 영역 중 어느 한 부분으로 치우침이 없이 다양한 방향으로의 사고 전환을 유도하기 위한 지도가 필요하다. 그리고 기초 탐구 과정 요소의 적절한 조합을 통한 탐구 학습 프로그램을 개발하여 학생들에게 각각의 탐구 과정 요소 간에 서로 영향을 미치고 있다는 사실을 지도하여, 기초 탐구 과정 요소 간의 상호 관계를 이해시킬 필요가 있다. 더불어 오개념이 탐구 활동에 영향을 주는 만큼 학생들이 갖고 있는 선개념을 잘 파악하여 탐구를 통한 올바른 과학적 개념 형성이 이루어질 수 있도록 지도하여야 하겠다. 또한 학생들의 흥미와 관심을 유발하기 위해 자신들이 살고 있는 지역적 특성을 고려한 다양한 탐구 프로그램들이 개발되어 학생들에게 적용한다면 좀 더 탐구 활동에 적극적으로 참여하게 될 것이라고 사료된다.

As one of the casting plans to improve the scientific inquiry ability of the students, the aims of this study are to develop and apply a basic inquiry program for the inquiry subject of Seogwipo fossil formation, and analyze the basis inquiry ability of the students to show in the inquiry activity process actually. The results obtained in 5th grade 48 elementary school students of Seogwipo-city are as follows; Students executed observing activity using an appropriate senses such as senses of vision and touch, and showed the tendency which tries to observe the form overall rather than the partial form of the fossil formation. But the ability to utilize appropriately for predicting and inferring with the facts which could depend on observing activity was low. And it was found that the misconceptions influence on inquiry activity. Therefore, to help understanding deeper for the students' basic inquiry element, it is thought that a study of the various educational guidance ways is necessary to this. The teachers also have to study the various ways to induce the scientific conception through the application of proper teaching-learning for correction of misconceptions. If various inquiry programs considering the regional-specific characteristics are developed to cause students' interest and curiosity, students would come to participate in inquiry activity aggressively a little more.
