Abstract

Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1952 was the worst disaster after Korea establishment, which caused an international war in East Asia at the same time. Even though Korea tried to defend against Japan by using personal firearms with bow and arrow, Korea was attacked by Japan using the advance rifles. However, Korea made an effort hurriedly to invent a weapon as the war took longer. Finally, Korea defeated Japan in sea battles, using large-size firearms. In addition, Korea won ground battles with portable small-size firearms. However, Korea realized that they could keep against Japan no longer with only traditional firearms technique, so that they introduced the advanced firearms and used them effectively, which played an important role in gaining the final victory. The firearms study of Korea was proceeded by Hyu, Sun Do from 1960 and brought the remarkable achievement in firearms history. Later, the study of firearms was mainly accomplished in the first term and the latter term of Korea. Therefore, the purpose of this study is that I will explore these questions, put forward the structure and use of firearms during the period of Japanese Invasion of Korea, and specifically present documentary records to prove used firearm. In chapter 2, First of all, I will explain about a small-size firearms Korean militaries used while fighting and then about a full-size firearms such as Hyun Ja, Ji Ja, Hwang Ja and Chun Ja. Lastly, The type, structure and use of fire train and fire works will be illustrated. In chapter 3, I will look at the problems militaries using korean firearms in the beginning of the war and describe change in the process of tactics to turn the tide. And the change in the employment of firearms and the acceptance of Western weapon and then development will be examined. Therefore, It will give a chance to recognize the whole firearms korean militaries used in wartime. In conclusion, this study will find out how Korea gained the victory against Japan. In particular, my interest is to specify korean firearms with documents of Korea and show photo data. Besides, the practice of firearms in the land forces and the naval forces will be understood, which can help prove the reality of korean firearms.
