제주문화상징물의 가치와 문화콘텐츠화 방안

Abstract

The cultural heritage of Jeju made by overcoming barren natural and historical environment throughout the years is regionally unique. Therefore, the core of the argument for Jeju or identity of people in Jeju will be the very culture of Jeju. Culture becomes property and competitiveness in the 21st century, so called 'the period of culture'. The culture of Jeju has infinite potential in this period. Not only food, clothing and shelter but also even the symbol of faith is made of stone in Jeju. And so this stone culture can be infinite potential. Therefore this study aims to find essential meaning of cultural history and spiritual history of Jeju culture and to identify people in Jeju. Also, it aims to find the characteristics of Jeju culture based on the universality of Korean culture to seek for the use measures based on this cultural archetype, and to suggest a way to globalize Jeju culture in the 21st century when is led by the cultural industry. The argument will be developed with 'stone culture' which is selected one of the ten cultural symbolic figures of Jeju among many symbolic figures of Jeju culture to find out the identity of Jeju culture. Among them, the scope of this study will be limited to 'stone wall', 'Jeongnang', and 'Dolharubang'. It is true that recent policies for cultural industry only focus on the industrialization while neglecting to find the cultural archetype and study cultural contents. Therefore, in-depth and systematic research and study on the archetype of Jeju culture needs to be preceded for resulting in substantial outcome in cultural contents business in Jeju. And understanding the meaning and value of cultural symbolic figures of Jeju and storytelling is important to turn them into cultural contents . Especially storytelling should reflect ecological consciousness which considers nature as an object of co-existence, not conquest. Cultural contents mean contents originated from cultural materials and things could be used for items in the cultural industry. This study will suggest the meaning and value of 'stone wall', 'Jeongnang' and 'Dolharubang', and methods to make contents for individual cultural symbolic figures in edutainment for education, digital contents, storytelling, character development, and the use of tourism resources.
