중학교 수학익힘책 활용에 관한 실태와 발전적 방안

Abstract

2007년 개정교육과정에 따라 개발된 중학교 1학년 수학익힘책을 2009학년도에 처음으로 일선 학교에 적용하다 보니 수학익힘책을 활용한 수업이 정착되지 못하고 있다. 본 연구는 지난 1년간의 수학익힘책을 활용한 수업의 적용 결과를 바탕으로 다음과 같은 연구문제를 선택하여 연구를 실행하였다.

1. 수학익힘책에 대한 교사와 학생들의 인식은 어떠한가? 2. 수학익힘책의 활용실태에 대한 분석 및 적절한 활용 방안은 무엇인가?

본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해서 제주시교육청 관내 동지역 중학교 1개교, 읍지역 중학교 1개교와 서귀포시교육청 관내 동지역 중학교 1개교의 1학년 학생 223명과 수학익힘책을 처음으로 1년간 접해본 제주특별자치도교육청 관내 중학교 1학년 수학담당교사 33명을 연구대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구문제 1에 대한 연구 실행 결과 교사와 학생 모두 수학익힘책은 많은 연습문제를 제공하여 참고서처럼 활용할 수 있고, 수학 문제해결 능력을 높일 수 있어서 수학익힘책이 필요하다고 인식하고 있으며 문항의 다양성, 삽화와 도표, 문제해결력 신장 등의 측면에서 만족도가 높았다. 하지만 자기 주도적 학습에의 적합성, 학습 동기 및 흥미 유발 측면에서는 교사는 긍정적이나 학생은 부정적인 인식이 많았다. 교사들은 수준별 수업을 위한 보조 자료로서의 수학익힘책의 취지에 맞게 실제 수준별 수업에 효과적이라고 인식하고 있다. 연구문제 2에 대한 연구 실행 결과 교사들은 학습한 내용의 반복 연습 및 보충 심화의 목적으로 수학익힘책을 과제로 자주 활용하고 있으나, 많은 학생들은 수학익힘책을 단지 과제물로 받아들이고 있었다. 또한 교사들은 수학익힘책을 각 차시의 정리 단계 및 중 단원 말미에 주로 활용하고 있으며, 다른 학습지나 문제지를 가끔 제공하거나 거의 제공하지 않고 있어 교사들의 학습자료 개발 부담을 줄여주는 것으로 나타났다. 교사들은 수학익힘책의 사용으로 학습량이 증가하여 시수가 부족함을 느끼고, 학생들은 수학익힘책의 필요성은 인식하고 있으나 활용에는 소홀하였다. 수학익힘책은 수업시간에 부족했던 부분을 보충하고 보충과정의 학생은 기본과정을, 기본과정의 학생은 심화과정을 접해 보는 계기가 되어야 하며, 모든 문제를 다루기보다는 학생들의 수준에 맞는 문제를 풀고 난 후 난이도를 높여나가도록 지도하는 것이 바람직하다

Math Workbook developed for the 1st-grade students of middle schools according to curriculum revised in 2007 was applied at middle schools for the first time in 2009 school year. As a result, class using Math Workbook is not becoming established. This research came true by studying the problems like the following based on the result of class taken using Math Workbook for last one year. 1. How is the realization of teachers and students on Math Workbook? 2. What is the analysis about practical usage state and proper useful way of Math Workbook? In order to achieve the purpose of this study, the survey was done as the subjects of research, 223 students of one middle school in dong area (e.g. Ara-dong), one middle school in town area belonging to Jeju City Office of Education, one middle school in dong area belonging to Seogwipo City Office of Education and 33 math teachers for the 1st grade of middle schools that have used Math Workbook for the first time for one year belonging to Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education. As the result of researching on problem 1, Math Workbook is practically usable like reference book thanks to many exercises for students. Math teachers and students realize that Math Workbook is needed to improve the ability of solving math questions. In addition, math teachers and students are satisfied with various questions, illustrations, charts and improving the ability to solve questions. On the other hand, Math teachers were positive but students were negative about goodness of self-leading learning and arousing learning motivation and interest. Math teachers realize that Math Workbook is effective for classes suitable for levels as helpful materials for classes. As the result of studying on problem 2, math teachers often use Math Workbook as assignment for the purpose of practicing the contents learned repeatedly and supplementary intensified class. However, many students were accepting Math Workbook as assignment only. In addition, math teachers use Math Workbook practically at the summarizing step of each period and at the end of medium unit. The burden that math teachers have for the development of learning materials is being lessened as well because other learning book or question book is given to students. Math teachers feel periods are lack due to increasing of learning questions through using Math Workbook and students realize that Math Workbook is needed but they were idle in using it practically. Math Workbook should supplement for parts that were lack for class and basic-level course should be taught to supplementary- level-course students. Basic-level-course students should have the chance to learn intensified-level course. It is desirable for math teachers of middle schools to increase level of difficulty after solving the questions suitable for studentsʼ standard rather than solving all the questions.
