초등학생을 대상으로 한 물 환경 프로그램 개발 및 적용

Abstract

물은 인간을 포함한 모든 생물에게 없어서는 안 될 중요한 생명의 원천이자 진화의 원동력이다. 그만큼 우리는 물과 매우 밀접한 관련을 맺으며 살아왔다. 그러나 우리나라도 물 부족 국가로 분류되면서 흔한 것으로 생각되어 온 물에 대한 인식을 제고하게 되었다. 이에 본 연구는 초등학생들에게 물에 대한 중요성과 앞으로 다가올 물 부족에 대한 인식을 고조시켜 물 환경을 잘 인식하고 아끼는 태도를 기를 수 있도록 프로그램을 개발하였다. 개발된 프로그램의 효과를 알아보기 위하여 제주도 서귀포시의 J초등학교 6학년을 대상으로 물 환경 프로그램을 적용하여 학습 전과 학습 후의 물에 대한 인식 및 태도 변화를 알아보았다. 개발된 프로그램을 가지고 탐구활동을 적용한 실험반은 이론 수업을 한 비교반에 비하여 물 환경에 대한 과학 지식 영역 및 과학 태도 영역에서 유의미하게 향상됨을 알 수 있었다. 아울러 실험반에 국한하여 적용한 탐구 영역 및 탐구 후의 정성적 영역에서도 학생들이 물에 대한 흥미와 호기심이 높아졌으며, 탐구 전보다도 물을 아끼고 깨끗이 이용하려는 태도를 보였다. 이에 본 연구의 환경 관련 학습 소재인 물에 대한 학생들의 과학 지식 및 과학 태도에 영향을 미치는 점으로 보아 앞으로 계속하여 다른 환경교육 학습 소재에 대한 프로그램 개발이 필요함을 절감하였고, 특히 지역적이면서도 실생활 문제와 밀접한 소재부터 접근하여 학생들로 하여금 흥미와 호기심을 높일 수 있는 방안을 강구해야 한다고 사료된다.

Water is the driving force of evolution and essential life spring indispensible to all the organisms including human beings. As the above expression indicates, we have lived being closely connected with water. However, as our country has been classified into a nation with insufficient water, its recognition is raised, which has been thought as a common thing. Accordingly, this study developed the program so that elementary school students can recognize water environment well and have the attitudes to save it by making them perceive the significance of water and elevate the awareness of lack in it in the nearest future. In order to examine the effects of the developed program, we investigated changes in attitudes and recognition of water before and after learning by applying the water environment program to 6 graders of J Elementary School in Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do. It was found that the trial class to which the scientific inquiry activity was applied with the developed program was enhanced significantly in cognitive and affective areas in relation to water settings compared to the comparison class to which theoretical classes were conducted. Moreover, also in the scientific inquiry area and qualitative area after the scientific inquiry applied to the trial class only, the students' interest and curiosity on water was elevated, and had the attitudes to save and use it cleanly more than the scientific inquiry. Thus, we have realized that it is necessary to keep developing programs regarding learning materials of other environmental education in light of the fact that in relation to water, their recognition and attitudes are affected by the environment-related learning material of this research, and especially, it is thought that it is essential to conceive plans to raise students' interest and curiosity by first approaching from materials which are local and closely connected with actual life.
