현대 패션에 표현된 타투 메이크업의 추(醜)의 미학

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 세기말부터 패션에 추(醜)이미지의 부각과 더불어 점진적으로 확산됨에 따라 타투에 대한 관점 변화 및 인식 전환의 계기를 메이크업을 통해서 마련하기 위함이다. 그러기위해 현대 패션에 표현된 메이크업에서 예술적 표현수단으로 활용되고 있는 타투 메이크업에 대한 정의를 정립하고 그 의미를 살펴보고자 한다. 현대 패션에 표현된 메이크업의 대표적인 추 이미지는 히피족, 펑크족에 이어 등장한 고스족의 메이크업에서 찾아 볼 수 있다. 고스족의 메이크업은 타투를 이용하여 괴기스러운 이미지 표현을 추구하였고, 이에 현대 패션의 추 이미지 표현을 대표한다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 타투의 미학적 측면에서의 추 이미지를 규명하기 위해 먼저 타투의 개념 및 표현기법, 의미 고찰을 바탕으로 타투 메이크업에 대한 정의를 정립하고, 타투 메이크업에 표현된 추 이미지를 해석하기 위해 칼 로젠크란츠의 추의 미학에서 몰형식성, 부정확성, 왜곡성을 차용하여 코드화 한 후, 그것들을 바탕으로 타투 메이크업에 대한 미적특성을 해석하기 위해 무형식(無形式)의 미, 불완전(不完全)의 미, 이형(異形)의 미로 유추하였다. 이에 타투 메이크업의 무형식의 미는 좌우 비대칭적 표현이나 이질적 요소의 도입에 의한 중성적․양성적 표현, 부분적 확대․면의 무시를 통해 일상적 규칙을 위반함으로써 부자연스러움과 모순성을 표현하며, 위치 전위 및 색의 엉뚱한 배치를 통해 전위적이고 해학적으로 표현된 미적특성을 코드화 한 것이다. 타투 메이크업의 불완전의 미는 색의 제한 및 축소․생략을 통해 임의적이고 모호한 추상적 형태로 표현하고 있으며, 비구조적 형태와 색의 과장 또는 은폐를 통해 세기말적 경향, 미래지향적 경향으로 표현되어지고, 기하학적․추상적 패턴이라는 불완전한 추상적 형태를 통해 공허미와 미완성의 특성으로 표현되어진다. 또한 이질적 소재의 꼴라쥬 기법으로서 모호성과 불완전성을 보여주며, 이질적 양식과 이미지의 혼용 및 차용을 통해 내부로부터의 해체, 예술적 불완전성의 미적특성으로 표현된 것을 코드화 한 것이다. 타투 메이크업의 이형의 미는 고스족의 메이크업에서 볼 수 있듯이 한색계열의 색채 사용으로 죽음과 악마적 분위기를 표현, 위치의 변형과 모방을 통해 해체주의와 탈중심화 경향 및 불건전성을 표현, 인위적이고 자극적인 원색의 사용과 인위적 장식을 통해 질서의 파괴 및 타락, 퇴폐적 경향을 표현한 것이다. 또한 구조․ 비례를 무시한 비정상적인 인체의 변형 방법을 통해 비인간적인 분위기를 표현함으로써 유희성․의외성․냉소적, 고통, 공포감, 혐오감, 죽음의 특성이 표현된 것을 코드화 한 것이다. 이상과 같은 결과를 바탕으로 타투 메이크업은 개성화․다양화 시대에 메이크업이 독자적인 조형예술로 더욱 발전할 수 있는 계기를 마련해준 메이크업의 표현기법으로써 무한한 아이디어를 제공하게 될 것이며, 또한 타투 자체를 예술의 한 장르로 정착시킴으로서 예술로서 가치를 부여하는데 도움이 될 것이라 사려 된다.

The purpose of this study is to find a chance to change viewpoints and awareness of tattoos through makeup as images of ugliness have stood out and spread gradually since the end of the last century. For the purpose, this paper sought to define tattoo makeup which is used as a means of artistic expression of makeup expressed in modern fashion, and to examine its meaning. Representative images of ugliness in makeup of modern fashion can be found in makeup of goths who appeared after hippies and punks. Since the gothic makeup pursued expression of scary images using tattoos, the makeup can be said to represent the ugliness images of modern fashion. Thus, in this study concepts, expression techniques, and meaning of tattoos were considered to examine the ugliness images from aesthetic perspectives of tattoos. Then, based on the consideration, a definition of tattoo makeup was established. To make out the images of ugliness in tattoo makeup, concepts of a lack of structure, incorrectness, and deformity were borrowed from the Aesthetics of Ugliness proposed by Karl Rosenkranz, and they were coded. Based on the coded meaning, aesthetic characteristics of tattoo makeup were inferred as beauty of formlessness, beauty of imperfection, and beauty of heterogeneity. In terms of the beauty of formlessness, unnaturalness and contradiction are expressed by violating regular rules: left-right asymmetric expression; sexless or bisexual expression through introduction of heterogeneous elements; and partial expansion or ignorance of area. In addition, it codes aesthetic characteristics expressed in avant-garde and humorous ways through transposition and unexpected arrangement of colors. The beauty of imperfection of tattoo makeup is expressed with discretional and vague abstract shapes by restricting, reducing, and omitting colors. Unstructured shapes and exaggeration or concealment of colors are used to express a decadent tendency and a future-oriented tendency. The beauty of imperfection is also expressed as characteristics of a beauty of emptiness and imperfection through imperfect abstract shapes of geometrical and abstract patterns. Moreover, vagueness and imperfection are seen through collage technique with heterogeneous materials, and dismantlement from the inside and artistic imperfection are expressed through mixture and borrowing of heterogeneous modes and images. These artistic characteristics are coded as the beauty of imperfection. When it comes to the beauty of heterogeneity, as the gothic makeup shows, death and demonic moods are expressed by using cool colors. In addition, transposition and imitation of positions are used to express deconstruction, decentering and unsoundness. By using artificial and stimulative primary colors and artificial ornaments, destruction and depravity of orders, and a decadent tendency are expressed. Moreover, by expressing inhuman atmospheres through abnormal transformation of human bodies which ignores structure and balance, amusement, unexpectation, sardonic pains, senses of fear and hatred, and the nature of death are expressed. These expressions are coded into the beauty of heterogeneity. Given the above-stated findings, tattoo makeup is makeup technique, which provides a chance to develop makeup into independent formative arts in the age of individuality and diversity. It is considered that it will provide infinite ideas and contribute to valueing tattoos itself as a genre of arts.
