Abstract

The more multi-cultural societies become, the more important different viewpoints toward multi-cultural societies get. This book provides a good opportunity to have a glimpse of different peoples' points of view, especially teenagers' varied perspectives, on the United States which is one of the most typical multi-cultural societies in the world.

This book makes peoples' immigration experiences real for readers not only through the voices of descendents of past various immigrants like slaves or slave owners, European craftsmen, Irish farmers, and many others, but also through direct experiences of teenage immigrants in high school. Newly arrived teenage immigrants introduce diverse customs of their native lands and compare their lives there with those in the United States. In addition, they recount traditions of their native countries, and present short stories, poems, recipes, and artwork. This book also provides interviews with teenagers born in America about their family history.

This book will help teachers and students know more about their multi-cultural environments, which will lead them to understand more about different cultures and thoughts of different peoples. This book is also helpful for parents and children because it will broaden their views on America comprising of various immigrants and their descendents with diverse cultural backgrounds, and help them know how to live a harmonious life one another.

I always believe that one of the best ways of making our place better is to change myself before anything else.
