Abstract

FBI Handbook of Crime Scene Forensics is a guide book which is published by Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI). It provides guidance and procedures for safe and efficient methods of collecting, preserving, packaging, and shipping evidence and describes the forensic examinations performed by authorized personnel. The U. S. has the best forensic system in the world. They already have set from the basic regulations to the specific detailed regulations for this matter. In Korea, we have the National Forensic Service but it handles only limited cases. This book's target readers are FBI agents or any law enforcement, but it covers general instructions for collecting, preserving, packaging, and shipping evidence so that general readers will enjoy this book to understand how the system works when any kinds of crime occur. The violent crime rate has been increasing every year. But we do not have an adequate forensic system to investigate properly all those increasing crimes. All personnel related to the law enforcement should be aware of at least the basic regulations. And when crime happens, the first officers who have arrived at the crime scene should follow the basic rule so that they prevent further loss of critical evidence. As the importance of forensics is getting bigger. I hope the knowledge about the systems of the advanced forensic agencies will contribute to our system so that we can enhance the rate of catching criminals and reduce the crime rate.
