A Study of Attitudes toward International Tourists According to Recognitions of Other Cultures
Abstract
We live in the world where people regularly contact with diverse cultures. Nations have their own cultures which change and develop constantly. Therefore, people change their perceptions and recognitions about these cultures. These perceptions are formed through a lifetime of experience. So it is very important to learn and form the right attitudes towards other cultures.
The purpose of this study is to find the value of recognition and understanding of cultures and attitudes of international tourists. Furthermore to provide what helps students improve their recognitions of other cultures and attitude of international Tourists.
This study was conducted using survey method From April 14th to 25th, 2011, 430 questionnaires were distributed to the elementary school students who live in Seogwipo, Jeju. Out of 430 questionnaire, 430 questionnaires were collected and a total of 416 questionnaires were finally used for analysis. To accomplish the objectives of this study, the theoretical review was preformed and frequency analysis, factor analysis, T-test, ANOVA analysis, were used for the statistic analysis using SPSS 12.0 for Windows.
It was learn that students who visit abroad have more recognitions about other cultures and through these recognitions have more positive attitude and goodwill toward international Tourists. The study established that by making young students aware of importance of other cultures. It help generate right kind of attitudes towards international tourists.
The result of the study also suggest that teachers should notice how their students understand other cultures correctly. Therefore, students could understand and learn about cultural diversity and importance. Also other organs of educational system should support the cultural education in the elementary schools so that they could understand difference and value of other cultures.
Understanding other cultures especially at a young age is very important and it makes people have more positive attitude, thinking and recognitions. In the future, more case studies could be implemented by selecting multiple regions for comparative analysis of recognitions of other cultures. I hope that the result of this research would be used as a basic data for developing not only Jeju tourism but also competitiveness of Korea.
