Analysis of Dynamic Characteristics of VSC-HVDC in Jeju Power System with Offshore Wind Farm
Abstract
This paper presents the modeling and analysis of Jeju power grid connected with large scale wind farms and voltage source type HVDC to the main land. For the computer simulation, wind farms, VSC-HVDC, thermal power plants and electric loads are modeled. To analyze the grid impact of the wind power generation to the Jeju power system, two kinds of simulation are carried out by using PSCAD/EMTDC program. One is the steady state operation under the variable speed wind, and the other is the transient state operation when 300MW offshore wind farm is disconnected from the Jeju power grid instantaneously due to the electric fault. These comparative studies will be useful to analyze the power quality under the impact of wind power generation in the power system with the renewable energy source. And also, VSC-HVDC wall be established in 2016 in Jeju Island is vary useful for Jeju power system stability under the variable change of lange scale wind farms.
