동화에 나타난 인물의 성격 유형 연구

Abstract

청소년은 자신의 삶을 이끌어줄 대상이 필요하며 그와 동일시되려는 욕구도 강하다. 동화는 모방욕구가 강한 청소년들의 동일시 욕구를 충족시켜줄 수 있는 중요한 매체 중의 하나이다. 그것은 진실성과 순수성을 바탕으로 현실과 미래를 긍정적으로 바라보며, 올바른 가치관을 꿈꾸게 해준다는 측면에서 교육적 가치가 크다. 동화 속의 인물들은 다양한 상황에서 갈등을 어떻게 해결하는가를 보여줌으로써 청소년들에게 동일시의 모델이 된다. 따라서 동화는 정체성을 확립하는 시기를 사는 청소년들의 성격 형성에 재대한 영향을 줄 수 있다. 특히 동화는 역동적인 인성 발달의 단계를 사는 청소년들에게 바람직한 간접경험의 기회로 활용될 수 있다는 점에서 중요하다. 연구자가 2009 교육과정을 반영한 중학교 1학년 국어 교과서에 수록된 동화 속 인물들의 성격유형을 탐색하는 이유도 여기에 있다. 이 연구를 위해 필자는 지그문트 프로이트의 3가지 퍼스낼리티 이론을 성격유형 분석의 이론적 도구로 활용하였다. 동물적 본능에 따라 행동하는 이드적 성격, 사회와 개인의 갈등 상황에서 개인의 욕망을 선택하는 에고적 성격, 그리고 양심과 도덕에 따라 행동하는 슈퍼에고적 성격을 준거로, 8편의 동화작품 속의 인물들의 성격 특성과 유형을 확인하였다. 분석 결과, 총 12명의 인물 중에서 에고적 성격이 7명, 슈퍼에고적 성격이 2명, 이드+에고적 성격이 1명, 에고+슈퍼에고적 성격이 2명으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 작품 선정 과정에서 성격적 균형이 고려되지 않았다는 증거가 된다. 그러므로 현행 1학년 중학교 국어교과서에는 이런 점을 충분히 고려하지 않은 채 작품을 선정하였다는 문제점을 안고 있다. 그 외에도 주인공의 성비를 고려하지 않은 점과, 장편동화를 부분 게재한 점, 통시적 측면에서 다양한 작가의 작품을 선정하지 않은 점, 그리고 23종의 1학년 국어교과서 중에서 12개 교과서에 동화가 수록되지 않은 점도 확인하였다. 앞으로, 이러한 사실들은 중학교 2,3학년의 국어교과서에 수록할 동화작품의 선정과정에서도 충분히 고려해야 할 과제로 보인다.

Adolescents need someone to lead their lives and have a strong desire to want to identify with that person. Fairy tales are one of the important medium to meet those needs to imitate. They are pedagogically valued to help teenagers to build their positive viewpoints for the real world based on purity as well as truthfulness. Characters in the fairy tales become models for the teens by suggesting how to overcome the difficulties. Therefore, fairy tales may have a significant influence on the teens who go through the establishment of their identities. Moreover, fairy tales have an importance because they can be used as a chance for adolescents who are at the stage of forming their personality to experience at second hand. That is the reason why the researcher study the personality types of the fairy tales characters on the Korean language textbook of 1st grade in Middle school(which reflects the 2009 national education curriculum). For this research, the researcher referred to Sigmund Freud's personality theory as a tool for analyzing the personality types of the characters. Eight fairy tale characters' personalities were classified into 3 types with the criterion of id, ego and super-ego personality. The results shows that of total 12 characters, there are 7 characters of ego personality, 2 of super-ego, 1 of id+ego and 2 of ego and id combined. The research suggests that there is lack of full consideration of characters' personalities. Besides, there are several arguable aspects including an imbalance of sexes of characters in the stories, inconsiderate partial extracts from the long stories, lack of selections from various writers throughout the history and missing fairy tales in the 12 out of 23 officially confirmed Korean language textbooks for Middle school 1st graders. This research can be a useful reference as to consideration of the fairy tales of Korean language textbooks for second and third grades in Middle school in the future.
