제주도 대정성지 공간 스토리텔링 전략

Abstract

최근 지역의 공간을 활용한 스토리텔링 시도가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 이것은 공간을 방문하는 사람들이 단순한 경험이 아니라 흥미롭고 새로운 경험을 요구하고 있기 때문이다. 공간은 기본적으로 공시적 또는 통시적으로 축적된 이야기를 내포하고 있으며, 사람들은 공간의 이야기를 매개로한 소통을 통해 공간의 의미를 이해한다. 따라서 공간의 이야기를 활용하여 새로운 의미를 제시할 경우 공간의 차별화를 모색할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 지역 공간의 자원을 활용한 공간 스토리텔링을 통해 공간의 장소성을 도출하였다. 우선 공간이 가지고 있는 다양한 장소자산을 기반으로 장소자산 분석, 스토리 발굴, 공간 기획으로 이어지는 공간 스토리텔링 전략을 수립하고 각 단계에서 표층적 장소성, 서사적 장소성, 심층적 장소성을 연계시키는 공간의 의미 확장 프로세스를 도출하였다. 그리고 이러한 프로세스를 연구 대상지인 제주도 대정성지에 적용하여 공간 스토리텔링 기획을 시도하였다. 첫 번째로 대정성지의 장소자산을 분석하여 중심 요소인 역사성을 도출했으며, 두 번째로 역사성을 기반으로 공간의 스토리를 발굴하여 추사 김정희의 유배 스토리를 스토리 테마로 선정하였다. 세 번째로 추사 김정희의 유배생활의 의미 분석을 통해 공간을 기획하여 자기완성의 공간 의미를 제시하였다. 이러한 공간 스토리텔링을 통해 대정성지의 장소성은 표층적 장소성인 역사성, 서사적 장소성인 추사 김정희의 유배지, 심층적 장소성인 자기완성의 공간으로 차별화된 공간의 의미를 도출해 낼 수 있었다. 본 연구에서는 획일화된 지역의 다양한 이야기 자원을 활용한 공간 스토리텔링을 통해 차별화된 장소의 정체성 도출을 시도해 보았다. 이러한 연구는 차후 다양한 공간의 경쟁력 강화를 위한 공간 스토리텔링 전략으로 활용될 수 있을 것이며, 이를 통해 다양한 가치를 지닌 공간의 유의미화에 대한 지속적인 노력이 이루어져야 할 것이다.

There have recently been more frequent attempts to utilize local sites for storytelling as visitors not only expect the general sightseeing information but also want an inspiring and entertaining experience. A certain space fundamentally includes synchronically and diachronically accumulated stories so that people can understand a meaning of space by communicating via storytelling. Therefore when a new comprehension is provided through spatial storytelling, a differentiation of space will be achieved. Applying resources from local sites the study draws a locality of a specific site through the use of spatial storytelling. At the beginning, the strategy of spatial storytelling was established in order to analyze various assets of the site, to discover stories, and then to design a space. Each step produces a process to extend meanings of the space so that superficial locality, narrating locality, and profound locality can be all connected to the space. The study applied this type of process to the Daejeongseongji and made an attempt on the design of spatial storytelling. First, by analyzing its assets, the study derived the historicity as an essential element from the Daejeongseongji. Secondly, the study discovered the story originating from the site, based on its historicity, and selected the exile story of Chusa Kim Jeong-hui as a story theme. And third, the study designed the space by analyzing the meaning of Chusa's life during his exile, and presented the significance of the site as place for self-realization. As a result, spatial storytelling made up of the locality of the Daejeongseongji so that its differentiation of space was achieved through the historicity as superficial locality, through the exile story of Chusa Kim Jeong-hui as narrating locality, and through place for self-realization as profound locality. The study intended to derive the differentiated identity of site by spatial storytelling utilizing diverse resources of story. It is projected to be applied as the strategy of spatial storytelling to enhance the competitiveness of numerous sites in the future to enhance the comprehension of the space and to increase its value.
