Abstract

This research paper is intended to take a ecological view of Kwon Jung-saeng's fairy tales. In an age of materialism and ecocide, we all need to ask ourselves questions about the values which we have in our sights and we shall be pursuing. Hence that'll be the product of this work. Chapter Ⅱ, the life and the world view of ecologism of Kwon Jung-saeng states how the life in colonial times and wartime and the pain from the division are pulled off through his works. In the first phase of chapter Ⅲ, the criticism of scientism and war, the world view of ecologism of Kwon Jung-saeng is further analyzed, divided into two subparagraphs - the harmful consequences of scientism and the violence and suffering of war. Kwon Jung-saeng didn't consider the human life as the center but the link of ecosystem and looked upon war and convenience of technology as current challenges. The majority of his pieces were set in farm village describing modern history of ourselves vividly in his works, portraying the characters living lives of poverty, marginality and tragedy. The second phase of chapter Ⅲ, new understanding of nature and marginalated beings, states his ecological standingpoint at an existence, divided into two subparagraphs - the organistic connection between nature and human being and the affection for marginalated being. His works are characterized by bringing to life everything that is real - a dog dung, a black bowl, a pole, a small pine tree and a human being, etc, thereby being together with everything make it worth it. In the third phase of chapter Ⅲ, incarnation of life-first ethics by self-sacrifice, looking over self-sacrifice and motherhood we discussed a respect for life and an equality of lives which Kwon Jung-saeng's literature are ultimately persuing. 'Everything is alive and so dear in being.' is the motto of Kwon's literature. In the last analysis, all living things are precious and equal because they're all tangled together like a net. The status and signification of his fairy tales in Korean children's literature will be summed up as follows. At first he portrayed the literature of co-existence and win-win, secondly overcomed the lag of the children's literature represented the so-called 'theory of children's innocence as angels' by describing innocence of individual childhood as unwrapped and thirdly extended the scope of the children's literature for adults. Indeed, he is definitely worthy of notice as the central figure of Korean children's literature. Ecologism could be presenting the literary materials for writing through understanding all beings in ecosystem, furthermore it is highly probable in children's literature rather than in adults'. We hope it will be a good opportunity to discuss the children's eco-literature actively and that'll be the fruition of our studies.
