- Abstract
- This thesis is the study about the character creation of the Qian, Kuen, Kan, Li, Jen, Shiun, Gen, and Den as a divination sign a title of the Eight Trigrams for divination based on the theory of the Eight Trigrams for divination which one of the theories of the origin of the Chinese Characters.
Pictographs express the real thing and self-explanatory characters express the notion from the six categories of the Chinese Characters. Thus, pictographs copy the real thing like the sun and the moon, self-explanatory characters symbolize the notion like the up and down. By the same token, the characters copy the real thing and symbolize the concept. Therefore, a divination sign a title of the Eight Trigrams for divination is regarded as the typical symbol which is the figuration of the notion. We recognize that the shape of the symbol about the concept put into writing like as the picture copying the real thing put into writing little by little.
Characters are created. In other words, the creation of a character makes a character that expresses content. Accordingly, we get to know the reason of the creation of the character, if we know exactly the meaning of the character in the presence of the character. On the contrary of this, if we want to know exactly the meaning of the character, we will get to know exactly the meaning of the character when we know the reason of the creation of the character. If we trust that I Ching is the oldest thing of the Chinese classics, we realize that I Ching is the first written book in the midst of the creation of the characters. Thus, this study tried to find a clue from a divination sign a title of the Eight Trigrams for divination based on the theory of the Eight Trigrams for divination of I Ching about the creation of the Chinese Characters.
In Chapter Ⅰ, this study described the purpose and the means of this study. In Chapter Ⅱ, this study established the process of the formation of the Eight Trigrams for divination in I Ching and the relation of the creation of the Qian, Kuen, Kan, Li, Jen, Shiun, Gen, and Den by the historical research based on the dictionary and references about the divination of the sign of the Eight Trigrams for divination. In Chapter Ⅲ, this study concluded the demonstration about the creation of the divination of the sign.
