Abstract

The book revolves around the Herdman kids, who are the worst kids in the history of the world. There is one member of the Herdmans- Ralph, Imogene, Leroy, Claude, Ollie and Gladys- in each grade at the Woodrow Wilson Elementary School. The Herdman kids smoke cigars, lie, steal, swear and occasionally set fire to things. If anything goes wrong, the Herdmans are always there behind it. The school project for the year demands that students think of compliments for their classmates- all of them. On the last day of school, students have to hand in their compliment papers and even read them out loud. During the process of thinking of compliments, students end up discovering the best hidden parts of their classmates. Surprisingly even the Herdman kids, the undisputed outlaws of Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, have some redeeming qualities that nobody knew until the last day of school.
