杜甫와 白居易 社會詩 考察 : 표현기법을 중심으로

Abstract

중국 당나라 때의 시인 杜甫와 白居易는 매우 훌륭한 작품들을 남겼다. 특히 두 사람 모두 현실 사회와 그 속의 백성들의 고통에 깊은 관심을 보이는 社會詩의 방면에 있어서 뛰어난 성과를 거두었다고 평가되고 있다. 그리하여 두 시인의 社會詩에 대한 많은 연구 결과가 축적되어 왔다. 본 논문에서는 후대에 널리 영향을 미친 그들의 社會詩의 특징이 어떠한 부분에서 드러나며 그 연원은 어디에 있는지에 관하여 살펴보는 연구가 유의미하다고 보며, 창작배경과 표현기법을 분석하였고 특히 표현기법에 더 중점을 두어 이를 고찰하였다. 창작배경에 대한 분석을 다룬 제2장 제1절에서 시대적 배경을 다루었다. 같은 唐代의 시인이지만 활동 시기의 차이가 존재하며 이는 두 시인의 生平과 맞물리면서 서로 다른 영향을 미칠 수 있었음을 제안하였다. 제2절에서는 유가사상을 중심으로 이들의 社會詩에 나타난 관점들의 배경을 살펴보았다. 제3절에서는 文學思想的 배경을 다루었다. 杜甫는 前代의 문학적 전통을 이어받아 사실주의 시가를 지었다. 白居易 또한 동일한 전통을 이어받음과 동시에 杜甫의 영향도 받았으며 이를 바탕으로 새로운 문학운동을 일으키기도 하였다. 제3장에서는 표현기법을 분석하였다. 제1절에서는 전형화에 대해 살펴보았다. 전형화는 두 시인의 社會詩 모두에서 자주 사용되는 방법으로 시를 통해 드러내고자 하였던 현실의 부조리를 효과적으로 전달해 주는 표현기법이다. 2절에서는 세부묘사에 관하여 다룬다. 이는 현실을 생생하게 전달하기 위하여 杜甫 社會詩와 白居易의 社會詩에 공통적으로 사용되는 표현 방법의 하나라 볼 수 있다. 이어서 3절에선 두 사람의 社會詩에서 현실의 생동감을 높이거나 부조리를 극명하게 부각시키기 위하여 공통적으로 많이 사용되었던 對比의 수법에 관하여 살펴 보았다. 그리고 4절의 議論性은 杜甫의 일부 작품에서도 나타나나 주로 白居易의 대표적인 표현기법으로 손꼽을 수 있다. 그 다음으로는, 5절에서 자신의 주장내용을 직접 서술하기보다는 객관서술, 대화체, 독백 등의 객관적인 서사방법을 통하여 표현하였던 杜甫의 社會詩의 특징적인 기법에 대하여 다루며, 白居易 社會詩의 의론성과의 관계에 대하여 살펴 보았다. 마지막으로 6절에서 寓言의 활용 역시 白居易 社會詩에서 독특하게 나타나는 표현 방법으로 주목해 볼 필요가 있음을 제안하였다. 본 연구를 통해 기존의 연구를 재정리하는 성과가 있었으나 杜甫와 白居易의 社會詩를 보다 더 심층적이고 종합적으로 다양한 각도에서 분석하는 후속 연구의 수행이 필요하다고 생각된다.

At the time of the Tang dynasty, poets, Du Fu and Bai Juyi left very excellent works. In particular, their works are evaluated to be outstanding achievements in the realm of social poetry, which shows a strong attachment to society and people. This has led numerous researchers to study on social poetry of these two poets; Du Fu and Bai Juyi. The author of this thesis, I think that it is meaningful to find out what the significant characteristics of their social poetry are and where these come from. Thus, this study mainly concentrates on the mode of expression, while laying focus on examining what brings social poetry of Du Fu and Bai Juyi to life. In chapter 2, an analysis of creation backgrounds is given. The first section deals with historical background. It is proposed that the difference of lives of these two poets who lived in Tang Dynasty, but not at the exactly same time caused important differences between their works. In the second section, ideological background which is one of the factors that effect on their views on society and people is analyzed with a focus on the Confucian thought. In the third section, literary background is examined. The literature of the time when Du Fu lived inherited realistic literature of former times, which has a strong influence on Du Fu's realistic poetry. Bai Juyi, in turn, was affected not only by this kind of realistic literary background but also Du Fu's works. He became to make a new literary movement based on these backgrounds. In Chapter 3, the modes of expression are analyzed. In the first section, typification is discussed. It is one of the modes of expression through which both Du Fu and Bai Juyi communicate social absurdities effectively. In the section 2, it is shown that detailed description is quite often used in the works of both of them, showing the reality at that time vividly. The technique of contrast presented in the 3rd section is considered as a common method which both Du Fu and Bai Juyi used a lot for enhancing the feeling of movement in reality or highlighting social absurdities starkly. In the 4th section, disputatious characteristic is suggested as the most important characteristic of social poetry of Bai Juyi, since this is found in almost every part of his works, although found in a few of Du Fu's works. The 5th section shows that objective narrative method is the mode which can be considered to be the characteristic method which communicates own ideas in the objective narrative ways such as objective depiction, dialogue, monolog, and the like, not in the subject manners. It is discussed with relation to the disputatious characteristic of social poetry of Bai Juyi. In the last section, it is discussed that the use of fables is a distinctive mode of expression in Bai Juyi's works. This study has both meanings and limitations in that it reorganized previous studies. Following studies which analyze the social poetry of Du Fu and Bai Juyi more deeply and comprehensively are needed at various angles.
