이공본풀이의 敍事構造와 通過儀禮的 意味 硏究

Abstract

通過儀禮는 인간이 살아가면서 겪는 存在論的인 상태, 신분, 지위의 변화 과정으로, '죽음'과 '생성' 의 원리를 바탕으로 한다. 통과의례의 과정에서 수반되는 죽음과 생성의 원리는 고대인들이 自然을 바라보며 얻은 자연의 법칙이자 그들의 깨달음이다. 종교적 제의나 신화가 융성하던 시대의 인간은 신과 같은 '영구적인 존재'로 남아있길 원했다. 그래서 고대인들은 죽음과 재생을 동반하는 儀禮的 행위를 통해 신적인 행위를 모방하였다. 이 연구는 이러한 의례적 행위에서 구송되는 를 연구의 대상으로 삼아 서사적 측면에서 드러나는 통과의례와 그 의미를 규명하였으며, 이를 통해 다음과 같은 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 첫째, 연구의 대상으로 삼은 이본들을 소설의 구성단계에 따라 구분하여 살펴봄으로써, 이>의 서사적 특성을 파악할 수 있었으며, 전체적으로는 '떠남 - 시련 - 좌정'의 서사적 흐름을, 부 분적으로는 '고난 - 고난해결'의 구조를 보임으로써 웅장하면서도 숭고한 미적 가치를 드러내고 있 음을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 의 중요 화소들은 모두 주인공들의 상태 변화와 밀접한 연관을 맺고 있어 텍스 트에 통과의례의 과정이 나타나고 있음을 확인할 수 있었으며, 이를 서사구조와 비교함으로써 서사 적 흐름에 따라 인물의 상태 및 지위의 변화가 일정하게 나타나고 있음을 알게 되었다. 셋째, 주인공들의 상태 변화는 주어진 운명을 극복하고자 하는 욕망에서 시작된 것이며, 이 과정 에서 발생하는 '시련'은 신으로 좌정할 수 있는 정당성을 획득하는 수단임을 알 수 있었다. 마지막으 로 주인공들의 삶의 목표인 서천꽃밭은 '죽음'과 '재생'의 원리가 공존하는 깨달음의 공간이자 수평적 세계이며, 운명 극복의 의지가 반영된 공간으로서 그 의의가 있음을 발견할 수 있었다.

Rite of passage, which is a transitional process of ontological conditions, statuses, and ranks that humans go through in their lives, is based on fundamentals of 'death' and 'birth'. This fundamentals of death and birth, the principles of nature, were delivered to the ancients while they gazed upon the nature. In the time when religious rituals and myths were flourishing, humans wished to be preserved as 'immortal beings' like gods. In this sense, the ancients emulated divinity through ceremonial rituals that accompany death and birth. This study is on the rite of passage and its meanings on the narrative aspects of , and its results are: First, narrative characteristics of were recognized by examining each versions of the story according to plot structures. In overall, it had a narrative course of 'departure - hardship - arrival', with structures of 'trouble - trouble resolved' in between, and presents magnificent and noble esthetic values. Second, the progress of rite of passage were visible through the text, as all major elements of are closely interrelated with conditional changes of main characters, and by comparing these to narrative structure of the story, it became clear that conditional or status changes of the characters were regularly appeared in accordance with the narrative course. Third, conditional changes of main characters began from their desire to overcome their fate, and 'hardships' along the process are means to gain legitimacy of promotion to gods. Finally, the flower garden of Seocheon, the ultimate aim of life for main characters, has its meaning as a horizontal world, a reflection of willpower to overcome fate and as the space of enlightenment where fundamentals of 'death' and 'life' coexist.
