사진이미지를 통한 팝 아트의 표현 연구

Abstract

팝 아트는 당대의 특정한 의식이나 행위에 중점을 두지 않고, 대중매체의 발달과 함께 발전하였다. 이 표현 양상과 발전 방향은 현대사회에 이르러서도 지대한 영향을 끼쳤다. 넘쳐나는 대중매체와 사진술의 발달, 인쇄매체의 발달로 인해 다양한 광고지나 신문, 공산품이 대량으로 생산되어 주변에서 발견할 수 있는 재료로도 예술을 할 수 있다는 친숙함 또한 현재까지 발전할 수 있는 요인 중 하나이다. 기존의 엘리트 중심적인 미술도, 대상을 실제 그대로 옮기려는 사실주의적인 미술도 아닌 '대중 친화적' 미술이었던 팝 아트는 많은 사람이 누릴 수 있었으며, 참여할 수 있었던 쉬운 예술로 주목받았다. 그래서 현재의 디자인, 광고, 영화 등에서는 이를 빌려 보다 대중적이고 이해하기 쉬운 예술 작품을 재창작하고 있다. 이러한 표현 양상은 대중과 함께하며 2차원적인 평면만이 아닌 입체, 콜라주 등의 실험적 예술로 전환되는 특징을 보여, 전후 미술이 현재까지도 지속될 수 있는 토대가 되었다. 본 연구는 1950년대 팝 아트의 첫 탄생부터 현대에 이르기까지 전개 과정과 그 속에 나타난 다양한 표현 기법을 바탕으로 현재의 뉴 팝아트까지를 살펴보고, 당대 작품과 본인 작품을 비교분석 하였다. 본론에서 의의와 형성 과정을 1950년대∼1960년대까지의 영국에서의 탄생과 미국으로의 전파 등 시초에 대한 특징을 중심으로 고찰하였으며, 미국에서 전성기를 맞은 1960년대 이후의 형성과 전개 과정을 통하여 뉴 팝 아트 까지의 향방을 살펴보았다. 또한, 표현 형식을 대중적 이미지의 차용, 색채의 표현, 사진과 콜라주, 재료와 표현 기법의 다양한 활용을 통한 조형 활동으로 나누어 본인 작품과 팝 아트의 사진이미지 활용, 색채 변환에 따른 특징적인 표현 형식들을 중점적으로 연구해 보았다. 이에 본 연구에서는 팝 아트의 태초적 성격과 다양한 표현 방법이 본인 작품에 어떠한 영향을 끼쳤는지, 뉴 팝 아트와 본인 작품의 발전 방향은 어떠한지에 대해 연구하였다. 또한, 다양한 표현 양식을 알아보고 새로운 팝 아트의 발전 방향이 현대의 대중문화의 발전과 어떠한 연계점이 있는지에 대해 알아보았다. 이러한 연구를 통하여 팝 아트의 표현형식과 매체를 적극적으로 활용한다면 뉴 팝 아트를 비롯하여 본인의 작품 또한 새로운 조형영역의 확장을 기대 할 수 있을 것이라 생각한다.

Pop arts have developed together with pop media without focus on the times' particular mentality or behaviors. This pattern of expression and its development direction have had great effects even on modern society. Thanks to overflowing mass media and the development of photography and print media, diverse advertising paper and newspapers, and industrial products are being produced in large quantities, so even easy-to-get materials can be used in creating works of art, and this material-friendly factor has been a key to developing pop arts thus far. Populace-friendly arts, pop arts, which were not the existing elite-centered arts or the realistic arts which depicted objects as they were, could be enjoyed by numerous people, and drew attention as easy-to-engage arts. Thus, nowadays, design, advertisement and film use pop arts and recreate works of art that are more popular and easier to understand. These patterns of expression were becoming popular among people and converted into not two-dimension but three-dimension, collage and other experimental arts. Thus post-war arts have continued until now. This study sought to review the development course and diverse expression techniques from the birth of pop arts in the 1950s to present day, and thus to examine current new pop arts and to compare and analyze my works and other contemporary works. The main text discussed the purpose and creation course of pop arts with focus on their birth in the UK in the 1950s - 1960s, and on their spread to the US. From the 1960s when pop arts reached their prime times in the USA to the 1960s when new pop arts emerged, the development course was examined. Also, expression styles were classified into borrowing of popular images, expression of colors, photos and collages, and plastic art activities through the diverse utilization of materials and expression techniques. Thus, my works, and characteristic expression styles according to the utilization of photo images in pop arts and conversion of colors were researched. Thus, this study examined how the primal characteristics and diverse expression methods of pop arts influenced my works, and how new pop arts and my works would be developed. In addition, diverse expression styles were examined, and it was studied how the development direction of new pop arts was linked to the development of modern pop culture. If through this study, the expression styles of pop arts and media are positively utilized, it is expected that new pop arts and my works will be expanded into new plastic arts fields.
