박완서 소설의 인물 연구

Abstract

이 연구는 박완서의 소설집 『친절한 복희씨』에 수록된 단편소설의 인물 분 석을 통해 박완서 소설의 이해를 한층 더 높이는 데 주안점을 두었다. 작가는 자 신이 나이 듦에 따라 노년에 대한 관심을 소설로 표명하여 생에 대한 세계관이 더욱 넓어졌음을 보여주었다. 다양한 경험과 삶에 대한 통찰을 근본으로 한 박완 서의 노년소설은 여러 학자들에 의해 높이 평가 되고 있다. 『친절한 복희씨』에는 주로 노인 인물이 등장한다. 작가는 자신이 노년기를 접하면서 노인을 바라보는 인식의 문제와 자식들과의 불화 같은 문제를 다루고 이를 통해 노인들의 소외 등 다양한 노년의 삶을 소재로 노년 문제를 드러내고 그와 함께 해결방법도 제시하고 있다. Ⅱ장에서 먼저 선행연구가 제시한 개념을 검토하면서 후기소설의 범위 및 작 품을 설정하고 주를 이루는 노년소설의 개념과 제시하였다. 긍정적 자아성찰과 화해를 주제로 하여 노년의 소외문제나 자아정체성의 문제를 화해와 자아성찰로 갈등을 해결하는 주제를 다룬 「그리움을 위하여」, 「그 남자네 집」,「후남아 밥 먹어라」, 「거저나 마찬가지」의 인물을 분석하였다. 칠순의 나이에 시작하 는 노년의 사랑을 통해 나이가 들어도 젊은 세대와 같이 사랑의 감정이 존재한 다거나 황혼기에 인생 재발견의 의미를 찾게 한다. 노인인 여성이 화자로 등장 하여 이전의 작품들과 비교해 볼 때 결혼관도 물질적 가치관에서 진정한 사랑 과 남녀평등의 결혼관으로 변화하였고, 환갑, 진갑을 넘긴 나이에도 당당하게 사랑을 선택하여 서로 존중하며 평등하게 생활하는 모습에서 노인의 재혼문제를 긍정적 시각으로 보여준다. 이를 통해 노년의 완숙함과 지혜를 강조하였다. 전쟁 체험의 자전적 소설에서도 전쟁의 비참함이나 폭력성에 무게를 두기보다 옛사 랑을 회상하는 형식으로 지난날의 잘못을 반성하는 자아성찰의 모습으로 그려 지고 있다. Ⅲ장에서는 노년의 당당함과 지혜로움이 그려진 박완서 소설의 인물의 양상을 파악하고 그 의미를 분석하였다. 남녀불평등의 사회구조 속에서 늘 피해당하고 소외되었으나 어머니의 사랑을 깨닫고 화해와 소통으로 이어지는 가족 간의 화합 등 모든 면에서 긍정적으로 그려지는 양상을 보이고 있다. 그것은 작가가 말하고자하는 노년의 원숙함, 감수 성, 관용과 이해의 모습이라고 할 수 있다. 「촛불 밝힌 식탁」, 「그래도 해피엔드」두 작품을 통해 작가는 젊은 세대의 노인에 대한 무관심을 비판하고 있다. 노인의 감정과 삶에 대한 애정을 존중하지 못한 사실을 성찰하게 하고 노인의 일상생활에서의 문제라든가 노인의 감정을 잘 드러내어 후세대의 관심의 필요성과 소통을 강조하고 있다. 이 작품은 노년의 삶의 외로움과 쓸쓸한 감정들을 잘 그려내면서 노인들이 감정과 삶을 존중해야 함을 말하고 있다. 또한 사회적 억압 속에서 고통 받는 여성들의 삶의 모습을 소 설로 형상화하였다. 이처럼 사회적 약자인 여성과 노인들에게 많은 관심을 가지 고 있었으며 이런 문제들을 작품화 하였다. 박완서의 노년소설은 노년에 대한 환상이나 기대보다는 노년의 현실의 삶과 문제점을 적극적으로 드러내지만 결론은 언제나 희망적으로 용서와 화해로 평화 로운 노후 생활을 누리는 것으로 마무리 되었다. 이러한 특징은 나이 듦을 자연 스러운 현상으로 받아들이지 못하고 두려워하는 이들에게 박완서의 긍적적 가치 를 전달한다는 의미를 지니고 있다. 박완서의 작품은 노년의 삶만을 조명하는 데에 그치지 않고 인간의 삶과 관련 된 다양한 문제를 사회적 관심으로 확산시키고 이에 대한 이해와 배려를 유도하 였다. 세대들 간의 사회적 소통 방법을 제시하는 등 거시적으로 통찰하는 안목을 보여주었다는 점에서 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

This study is to understand better Park Wansuh's literary works, through character analysis of short stories, contained within novel "Kind Mrs. Bok-hi". As getting older, of herself, the author figured her attention to an old age life through her novel works, and it demonstrated her widen philosophical views and values on living a life. Old age novels of Park Wansuh are based in various experiences and perception of life and evaluated highly by other scholars. On "Kind Mrs. Bok-hi", the old aged mainly appear. The author, with her aging, dealt with the matter of perception regarding old people and of conflicts with children and then, through this, revealed old peoples' problem, as elements of novel structure, various life aspect of the aged, such as old people's social isolation and more, suggested solutions regarding problems. On Chapter II, reviews of conception, suggested by precedent study and definition of the range and novel pieces of her later work and then, the perception of old age novels, mainly written in her later period is suggested. And is analyzed of characters from "Geuriumeul wihayeo" (Tribute to Longing), Geu namjaeui jip (That Man's House), Hunama bap meogeora (Hu-nam, It's Time for Dinner), Geojeona machangaji (Almost Free), which all refer instructive themes whereby 'self-introspection or a reconciliation' solves conflicts on the aged's isolation and self identity issues, with a subject like as a positive self-introspection or a reconciliation. And is to find out the meaning as a rediscovery of life in the twilight years, or as having still emotional affection just like young people, regardless of getting older, through a new love story of old man with an age, over 70. With the old woman's narration, compared with earlier pieces before, the perspective of marriage has changed from materialistic traditional values to real love and gender equality, And the issue on the remarriage of the elderly is described with a positive view, showing that without hesitating to choose love with an age over 60 and to make a harmonious living together with all reciprocal respect. Through this, it emphasized the maturity and the wisdom of the aged. Even with her autobiographical novel about war experience, instead of the emphasis on miserable situation of war or violence, it is drawn using flash back of a old lover, and drawn as the self-examination by reflecting old faults in past time. On Chapter III, it is analyzed and is apprehended the aspect of characters, drawn the dignified appearance and wisdom of the old aged, inside Park Wansuh's works. And furthermore, is positively adapted, in all aspects, by describing a harmonious family life, connected with reconciliation and communication, through recognizing mother's love, inspire of being damaged and isolated socially, under social structure with gender inequality. And that is exactly what the author means about maturity, sensitivity, generosity and comprehension from the aged. , from those two pieces, the author criticizes indifferences of the young generation about the old and makes a deep consideration on their disrespectfulness for old people's feeling and affection on their life, and more, underlines the need of attention and communication as well, through well-described feelings and real life problems of the old aged. This novel described well of the loneliness and the solitary feeling of old ages' life, and expressed the respect with feeling and life of the aged. And again, life figures of women, suffering under the social oppression, is embodied in within stories of novels. Following these factors, it is realized that the author paid a big attention to women and old people as weak class in society and used them as elements of novel structure. And old age novels of Park Wansuh educed enjoying a peaceful old age life way through forgiveness and reconciliation, with a hopeful conclusion, however dragging up real life stories and practical problems of the old aged, instead of giving illusion and expectation about old ages' life. From this point of view, her work is very significant to deliver the author's positive values to those who are afraid of aging itself and of accepting it as a natural aspect. Park Wansuh's works are not focusing only on the life story of the aged, but expand various issues related with general human life into social issues and lead to comprehension and consideration on it. And it is significantly recognized her discerning eye of an insight with a broad view and appreciation, suggesting social communication method between generations.
