동·서양 정물화의 조형적 표현

Abstract

미술은 시대의 흐름을 반영하며 끊임없이 새로움을 추구하며 변화한다. 과학문 명의 발달로 인해 인간은 안락하고 편리한 생활을 하지만 물질의 풍요 속에서도 소통과 공감의 부재로 인해 미술창작과 감상의 중요성은 더욱 더 절실한 상황이 다. 특히 오늘날 현대미술은 테크놀로지를 적용하여 과학과 그 눈높이를 맞추기 위 해 시각적, 순간적, 임시적 방법을 추구하는 경향이 있다. 이러한 현대미술의 현 실에서 정물화는 아직도 인간의 감정에 아름다움과 경이로움을 느끼게 해 주는 장르이다. 그런 점에서 정물화의 조형표현에 관한 연구는 의미를 가지고 있다. 정물화의 주제가 되었던 꽃과 식물, 과일과 기물, 일상용품 등은 고대로부터 현 재까지 인간의 일상생활과 가장 친근한 소재들이다. 또한 정물화 작품을 통해 당 시 생활의 다양한 단면을 들여다볼 수 있는 즐거움도 같이 누릴 수 있을 뿐 아 니라 생활의 공간을 아름답게 꾸미는데 정물화는 중요한 역할을 담당했다. 본 연구에서는 정물화의 조형표현에 관한 연구를 위해 동양과 서양 정물화를 비교하고 정물화의 의미와 기원, 동양과 서양 정물화의 변천을 각각 조사함으로 써 정물화가 어떻게 발생했으며 또 어떻게 독립된 영역으로 정착하게 됐는지 고 찰했다. 이를 파악하기 위해 동양과 서양 정물화의 소재와 기법, 구도와 공간표 현, 상징과 의미를 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 동양과 서양은 정물화의 의미에 대한 개념이 각기 다르지만 고대로부터 현재에 이르기까지 인간의 삶과 생활을 담아낸 점에서는 크게 다르지 않다는 점 을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 정물화는 18세기가 되어서야 독립된 장르로 확립되어 그 위치가 확고해지 기 시작했으나 아름다움과 미를 사랑하는 인간의 취미와 함께 다양한 방식으로 변천해 오며 그 조형표현 또한 장식적, 심미적, 조형적 관점으로 다각화 되었다. 셋째, 정물화는 회화의 영역 가운데 뒤늦게 정립되기는 했지만 고대로부터 꾸준 히 인간 삶의 가장 가까이에 있었다는 것을 파악할 수 있었으며 정물화의 조형 적 표현 변화의 가장 큰 전환점은 인상파 화가들에게서부터 시작되었다는 점을 알 수 있었다. 또한 동양과 서양의 정물화가 소재에 있어서는 별다른 차이를 지 니지 않았으며 단지 재료와 기법으로 차이가 다름을 결정한다는 것을 파악하였 다. 넷째, 정물화의 구도와 공간표현에서는 동양은 여백을 활용하기 때문에 보다 감 상자에게 자유를 부여하고 반면에 서양은 화가가 연출한 장면을 감상자가 그대 로 받아들이면 된다는 점이다. 하지만 대상의 상징과 의미에 있어서는 동양과 서 양이 크게 다르지 않음을 파악할 수 있었다. 동. 서양 정물화의 다양한 측면과 조형표현을 고찰하고 분석하기 위해 오창석, 샤르댕, 모네, 세잔느, 고흐의 정물화 작품을 선택하여 그들의 조형언어와 조형표 현의 실험적 자세를 알아봄으로써 정물화 조형표현의 변천과 의의를 미술사적 측면에서 연구하였다. 이러한 연구과정과 분석을 통해 동양과 서양 정물화가 서로 소통하고 영향을 주고받아 새로운 창작 기회를 가질 수 있으며 또한 정물화가 독자적 영역을 구 축하여 21세기 미술에 새로운 조형미학을 창조해 내는 방향을 제시할 수 있다고 본다.

Fine arts have been changed constantly referenced by times and circumstances seeking for the new material and technique. According to the development of science and technology human-being's life style is getting convenienced and relaxed in many ways. But another view of modern life is full of demerit elements of communication and empathy. With this reason there are great requirements of Fine arts creation and appreciation. In particular, there is a tendency of that modern Fine arts is developing optical, momentary and temporary methods by appling the scientific material and technology. In this modern arts attitude, the concept and plastic expression of still-life paintings of East and West pomp human-being's emotion and vision up peace and happy. Because of this reason studies on plastic expression of eastern and western still-life paintings is required. The theme of still-life paintings is flowers and plants, fruits and ceramics, daily goods and they are much related to human-being's daily life itself from the ancient time onwards. At the same time the appreciation of still-life paintings is a window to traveling and exploring of the life style and aesthetic view from the ancient time to the modern days. Also the decorative value of still-life painting is a great accomplishment of daily life. In this study a modest attempt is made to research what are the characteristics in eastern and western still-life paintings and when they originated. How they flowering phase and similarities and dissimilarities between eastern and western still-life paintings. Its similarities and distinctive qualities, as compared with Korean folk paintings. For the purpose of convenience, the present study has been referenced the theme and technique, the composition and space expression and the symbol and concept of eastern and western still-life painting has been studied. The results are as follow. Firstly, there are similarities of representation on theme between eastern and western still-life painting though there are differences of concept of still-life painting from the ancient to till now. Secondly, eastern still-life painting settle down in 11-12th century and western still-life painting settle down much later period of 18th century in individual sect of fine art. But eastern and western still-life painting both developed in same aesthetic direction of beauty and elegance of theme. But there are diversities of plastic expression, decorative quality of space, aesthetic elements of form between eastern and western still-life painting. Thirdly, the development of eastern and western still-life painting in later period but close attach to daily life from the ancient time to till now. There is a great turning point of western still-life painting is a movement of Impressionism. In addition the eastern painters are worked in philosophical way of theme on the contrary the western painters are worked more in representative way in plastic expression. Fourthly, there are differences between eastern and western still-life painting in expression of space. The eastern still-life painting maintained big empty space to an appreciator but the western still-life painting composed perfect composition by the artists. However their use of concept and symbolic idea of theme in similar attitude. For the purpose of concern, the present study has been researched on still-life paintings of Oh Chang-Suk, Sardin, Monet, Cezanne and Gogh seeking for plastic expression of eastern and western still-life paintings. The eastern and the western still-life painting have been compared. By this study, the possibility of understand and influence to plastic expression of still-life painting between the eastern and the western still-life painting is clear and valuable in contemporary art of 21st century.
