Relationships between Tourism Interpreter's Communications and Tourist Satisfactions: Focused on Comparison between Cultural and Natural Tourist Attractions
Abstract
There has been a rapid growth in cultural tourism. With the activities
which make it possible to communicate with visitors by explaining both
cultural and natural tourist destinations, a lot of effort has been exerted in
order to help visitors understand the resources each tourist site possesses and
satisfy their desire for knowledge.
This study tries to present basic directions to show how important the
communication type of a cultural heritage commentator is by comparing
cultural and natural tourist attractions. To that end, the study first
investigates the influence each type of communication has over the
satisfaction of visitors, which is offered, as a form of commentary service on
tourism resources, by a cultural heritage commentator who has to deal with
visitors at a tourist site for the first time.
As a result, this study, based on the findings from the comparison
between cultural and natural tourist attractions, conducted research on the
influence that the communication type of a cultural heritage commentator has
over the satisfaction of visitors and then verified, through an empirical study,
what factor has the most impact.
Unlike other exiting studies, this one was targeted at those who visited the
Jeju Haenyeo Museum for a cultural tourist destination and Geomun Oreum
for a natural tourist attraction. In addition, the study appears to have a useful
value for two reasons; for one thing, the study was carried out by
theoretically classifying communication types and dividing them into two
categories of verbal and non-verbal. For the other, the findings of the study
show that the communication type is the main factor that has the most
influence on the satisfaction of visitors. In this regard, to compare cultural
and natural tourist attractions according to the type of tourist site, this study
chose different types of study subjects and looked into how the
communication type affects the satisfaction of visitors.
It is anticipated that the future studies will complement the areas that are
lacking in an empirical study and be carried out extensively, rather than
focusing only on one area when comparing cultural and natural tourist
destinations. Furthermore, an in-depth and concrete study on the
communication types should be conducted.
