A Study on Job Skills and Satisfaction of Chinese Tourist Interpreters
Abstract
The study is research on job skills and satisfaction of Chinese tourist interpreters in Jeju region. In recent years, with dramatic increase of tourists from China, guides closely contacting these tourists also increases. In tourism industry in Jeju, the importance is also attached to Chinese tourist interpreters. So, it is necessary to research what role job skills of the Chinese guides plays in actual tourism market. Since this march, due to worsening of Korea- China relation, tourists from China decreases dramatically, resulting in reduced income even unemployment of Chinese tourist interpreters. So, their job satisfaction is investigated, the relation between job skills and satisfaction is researched in the paper.
For above purpose, this research conducted a questionnaire survey by referencing theoretical knowledge to export 5 aspects in job skills and 4 aspects in job satisfaction. The following three hypotheses were made: first, job ability of different demography is different. Second, job satisfaction of different demography is different. Third, job skills of guides has influence on job satisfaction.
For empirical analysis, by referencing the material of previous research and the relation between variables as theoretical guidance, the questionnaire survey was made. In more than a month from September 12 to October 17, 2017, people having engaged in or engaging in Chinese tourist interpreters were questionnaire surveyed. Total 346 questionnaires were recalled, eliminating some questionnaires without tourist interpreters certificate or inapplicable, total 152 valid questionnaires are selected for analysis. To analyze the data of these questionnaires, IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0 software was used to make a frequency analysis first, t-test method was used to test difference in job skills, job satisfaction of different tour guides based on demographic characteristics. To test the correlation between job skills and satisfaction, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were made.
According to result of analysis, the research concluded the following:
First, Chinese tourist interpreters in Jeju region highly evaluate their own job skills. In terms of job satisfaction, economic satisfaction and social satisfaction are at common level, intelligent satisfaction and soul satisfaction are higher slightly.
Second, according to different demographic characteristics, there is difference in a part of elements of job skills.
Third, according to different demographic characteristics, there is difference in a part of elements of job satisfaction.
Fourth, influencing relation between job skills and job satisfaction of tour guides, job skills has certain influence on soul satisfaction.
