제주 4ㆍ3 진상규명의 추이와 역사 교과의 서술 변화

Abstract
From the past until today, the social perception of Jeju 4ㆍ3 has changed by the efforts of citizens requiring the truth. Because this change is especially correlated with different depictions in different textbooks, this paper will discuss how the description of textbooks is changed when the process of identifying the truth changes the general view, and will further suggest a better way to illustrate Jeju 4ㆍ3. As a result, in history textbooks, Jeju 4ㆍ3, which was described as a communist uprising has now changed to an event of National Violence where innocent lives were taken. The continued process of identifying the truth eventually leads to the clear understanding of Jeju 4ㆍ3. However, the depiction of Jeju 4ㆍ3 in history textbooks fails to depict the full aspect of this event. Currently, Jeju 4ㆍ3 does not only understand the meaning of the death of many innocents, but now extended to pursue universal human qualities such as reconciliation, peace, and peaceful
coexistence. The characteristics of Jeju 4ㆍ3 descriptions is mainly determined by the results of the on-going research, Therefore the descriptions of such events in textbooks should change accordingly to the research and the following social perception. For textbooks to change, the recent inquiry of Jeju 4ㆍ3 must be fully
reflected. Presently, the identification of truth shows the practical result. However, these products are nowhere to be seen in history textbooks. This phenomenon fails to meet for the purpose of accurately depicting Jeju 4ㆍ3 and thus, an effort to improve the descriptions. Most importantly, for a desirable describe of Jeju 4ㆍ3, textbooks should be made in such a way that students feel comfortable encountering the event.
The use of different interactive studying tools helps students be more engaged in the topic and would thus create the education more effective. Jeju 4ㆍ3 is an important exemplar of the modern history of South Korea
that overcame one of the most conflicting ideas through the process of identification of truth, and is now reaching for peace and increasing human rights. Therefore, any further history textbooks should formate textbooks in a way where students are able to better understand, and incorporate current inquiry to teach Jeju 4ㆍ3 more effectively. As the researcher thinks, if these guidelines are followed, the future education of Jeju 4ㆍ3 would be superior compared to the education in the past.
