The Effect of Leadership and Empowerment Perception on The Job Satisfaction of Hotel Employees : Focused on Small and Medium-sized Hotels in Jeju Area
Abstract
Recently, hotel companies have faced fierce competition due to changes in their business environment. In order to survive the competition, companies are using various resources to strengthen their competitiveness. Hotels are a representative human service company. A hotel's products combine with human services to create good products that satisfy customers. Securing and managing human resources is very important to make good products. In excellent companies, the emphasis is placed on empowerment and job satisfaction in order to efficiently manage human resources.


This study examines how the perception of empowerment impacts small and medium-sized hotel employee's job satisfaction in Jeju area. In addition, the leadership of hotel management in the process is to find out how it affects the process and to study effective human resource support management measures.
For this research, the theoretical background was investigated by utilizing domestic and foreign related books, papers and other materials. This researcher also visited small and medium-sized hotels in Jeju for detailed empirical research and conducted interviews and surveys of more than 150 hotel workers on their awareness of empowerment, job satisfaction and leadership.
The survey also found negative perceptions of empowerment, leadership and duties in certain hotel workers positions. However, in most hotels, perception of empowerment has had a positive impact on job satisfaction. In addition, the hotel management's transactional and transformational leadership has had a more positive impact between empowerment and the perception of job satisfaction.
As for the implications of the research results, human resource management is very important in hotel companies to further strengthen human services for customer satisfaction for the continuous growth and development of hotels under the increasingly difficult inter-hotel competition environment. As a study targeting small and medium-sized hotels in Jeju, there are limitations in applying the results of this study to all hotels.
However, in order to provide competitive human services in a competitive business environment, hotel workers should be aware of the hotel's empowerment policy, strengthened service marketing, and increases to job satisfaction. And the leadership of the hotel's management should be fully supported on various levels in systematic, psychological and financial aspects.

Finally, this study was conducted on small and medium-sized hotels in Jeju and has several limitations due to short-term and one-time empirical research. However, This researcher hope that it will be of small help in further research on hotel company's empowerment, job satisfaction and leadership. It is recommended that discussions on the hotel company's empowerment, job satisfaction and leadership will be expanded in the future with more various case studies.
