Development and Effects of Child Play-based Elderly Dementia Prevention Integration Program
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop an integrated dementia prevention program based on child play for the elderly to prevent dementia and to verify its effectiveness. The research questions set to achieve the purpose of the research are as follows. Research Question 1. How to construct an integrated dementia prevention program for children based on child play? Research Question 2. What is the effect of the integrated dementia prevention program for the elderly based on child play? Hypothesis 2-1. The cognitive function of the experimental group receiving the child dementia prevention integrated program based on child play will be significantly different from that of the control group. Hypothesis 2-2. The mental health of the experimental group receiving the child dementia-based elderly dementia prevention integrated program will be significantly different from that of the control group. Hypothesis 2-3. The daily living performance of the experimental group receiving the child dementia prevention integrated program based on child play will be significantly different from that of the control group. In relation to Research Question 1, the program development process is based on the ADDIE model, based on the literature and prior research analysis, learner questionnaire, expert Delphi survey, and FGI demand analysis. The program was developed according to the procedure of. In the analysis phase, the goal of the integrated dementia prevention program for the elderly based on child play was set by analyzing the literature and prior studies related to finding the direction of research and deriving implications according to requirements. In the design phase, the targets were established for each session of the dementia prevention integration program by reflecting the extracted elements of the analysis phase, and sub-components for the goals were set for each session. In the development stage, teaching materials were selected to achieve the goals of the program, and the suitability was verified for the detailed activities and contents of the program based on the target statement for each activity. The program developed in this study is based on the child play-based elderly dementia prevention integration program, and is a total of 8 sessions of 60 minutes per session. In addition, preliminary research was conducted as a step to modify and supplement the program. The final dementia used to determine the difference in the amount of change in pre- and post-test results by independent sample t-test analysis and covariate analysis. As a result of analysis, the cognitive function of the elderly in the experimental group was maintained or improved by the child play-based elderly dementia prevention integrated program developed in this study, and mental health and daily living performance were also improved. Even in the results of qualitative analysis through participation observation and experience report, testimony, and satisfaction survey for the entire contents of each session or program, the elderly in the experimental group activate cognitive function through movement, create vital energy of mental health, and perform daily life for mental and physical health Through the analysis of meanings such as improvement, it was found that the social perception of dementia was changed and the results were positive for healthy aging and quality of life. The child play-based elderly dementia prevention integrated program developed in this study was systematically and logically verified in the program development process, and it was proved from an empirical point of view that it is a program that helps elderly aged 65 and older to prevent dementia. Therefore, the elderly will participate in the dementia prevention integration program to contribute to the prevention of dementia by positively utilizing leisure time such as maintaining mental health, providing continuous services, and interests with families.
