지역의 전설과 인물을 활용한 교육프로그램 개발

Abstract

이 연구는 지역의 전설과 인물을 활용하여 지역의 역사에 대해 학습하고 새로운 관점으로 재해석해보는 교육프로그램을 개발하는데 그 목적이 있다. '지역'이란 개념은 마을 단위부터 국가를 거쳐 대륙과 세계까지 수많은 의미를 지니고 있으나 이 연구에서는 '행정단위로서의 지방'의 의미로 사용한다. '지역사 교육'은 교육생이 주변에서 쉽게 접할 수 있는 이야기와 지역 사람들의 삶을 살펴보기에 교육생이 지역에 대한 관심을 높이고 교육에 적극적으로 참여하며 지역이 당면한 문제를 인식하는데 도움을 줄 수 있다. 이러한 지역사 교육의 방법은 크게 '분산적 접근방법'과 '주제적 접근방법'으로 구분되며 연구자는 이 중에 지역을 더 중점적으로 다루고 지역의 특수성이 반영되는 '주제적 접근방법'을 채택하였다. 지역별로 지역사 교육의 소재를 선정할 때 필요한 기준을 마련하고 그 기준을 제주도에 적용하였다. 선정 기준은 다른 지역에도 적용 가능한지, 익숙한 내용으로 접근이 쉬운지, 비판적 시각으로 살펴볼 수 있는지 등을 고려하였고 이 기준에 따라 제주도에서 지역의 전설로 '이어도', 지역의 존경받는 인물로 '김만덕', 지역사 속 안타까운 인물로 '삼별초 항몽 당시의 제주민'을 선정하였다. 그리고 선정된 소재를 활용한 교육프로그램을 '한국폴리텍대학 제주캠퍼스'에 적용하여 개발하였다. 구체적인 교육내용으로는, 전설 이어도가 수중암초로 실재화되면서 제주가 이상향을 잃어버린 것은 아닌지, 김만덕의 양인 신분 회복과 관련해 다른 가능성은 없는지, 삼별초 항몽에 부여하는 역사적 의미만큼 제주민들의 희생과 고통도 인정해야 하는 것은 아닌지를 주요하게 다루었다. 교육프로그램은 각각의 교육내용에 따라 1개씩, 총 3개를 개발하였으며 각 프로그램은 다시 1차시, 2차시, 3차시로 나누어 구성하였다. 1차시에서는 교육 소재에 대한 역사적 사실을 기존의 일반론과 새로운 시각을 대비하며 강의식으로 전달한다. 2차시에서는 기존의 일반론을 대변하는 측과 새로운 시각을 대변하는 측으로 입장을 나누어 패널토론을 진행한다. 3차시에서는 2차시의 패널 입장을 반대로 바꾼 채 특정 상황을 가정한 역할토론을 진행한다. 마지막으로 3차시 끝부분에 교육자가 2차시와 3차시의 주요 토론 내용을 요약, 정리한 후 유사한 다른 사례를 간략히 소개하며 교육생이 교육내용에 대한 관심을 계속 유지하고 스스로 학습을 지속할 수 있는 동기를 제공토록 하였다. 이 연구가 지역사 교육프로그램을 설계하는데 한정되고 교육 효과를 검증하지는 못하였으나 후속 연구가 이어져 더욱 정교한 학습모형과 프로그램이 개발되기를 바란다.

The purpose of this study is to develop an educational program that uses regional legends and characters to learn about regional history and reinterpret it from a new perspective. Regions can be used in a number of concepts, from villages to countries and the world. However, in this study, it was used in the sense of including local. Education on regional history can help trainees to develop interest in the region, actively participate in education, and recognize the problems facing the region, as it examines the stories that trainees can easily encounter and the lives of regional people. These methods of regional history education are largely divided into distributed approach and subjective approach, among which the researcher has adopted a subjective approach that focuses on the region and reflects the specificity of the region. When selecting the subject of regional history education by region, the necessary standards were prepared and the standards were applied to Jeju Island. The selection criteria considered whether it can be applied to other regions, whether it is easy to access with familiar content, and whether it can be viewed from a critical perspective. Next, by applying this standard to Jeju Island, Regional Legend Ieodo, Regional Character Righteous Person Kim Man-deok and Jeju People as unfortunate figures in region history, and were selected. In addition, an educational program using selected materials was applied to the Korea Polytechnics Jeju Campus and developed. Specifically, the contents of education include whether Jeju lost its utopia as the legendary Ieodo became a rock, whether there is any other possibility regarding the Kim Man-deok's life, and whether Sambyeolcho to resist Mongolia was the suffering of Jeju people. A total of three programs were developed according to each educational subject, and each program consisted of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class. In the 1st class, the historical facts on educational subject matter are compared with the existing general theories and regional perspectives and delivered in a lecture style. In the 2st class, a panel discussion is conducted by dividing the positions of the side representing the existing general theory and the side representing the regional perspective. In the 3rd class, a role discussion assuming a specific situation is conducted with the panel's position in the 2st class reversed. Finally, in the end of the 3rd class, the instructor summarizes and organizes the main discussions of the 2st and 3rd class, and then briefly introduces other similar cases, so that the student can maintain interest in the educational content and continue learning on their own. This study was limited to designing a region history education program and did not verify the effectiveness of education. However, I hope that more elaborate learning models and programs will continue to be developed.
