張愛玲의 『傾城之戀』 연구

Abstract

본고에서 필자는 张爱玲의 『傾城之戀』을 읽는 또 다른 방법으로 결핍이라는 인간 심리에 중점을 두고 분석하고자 한다. 주인공 白流蘇와 範柳原은 각각 처한 상황 속에서 생존을 위해 서로의 결핍을 채워주는 대상이 된다. 하지만 서로의 결핍과 욕망에 도달하는 결말에서 두 인물은 서로 다른 양상을 띤다. 이를 위한 선행연구로는 중국과 대만 그리고 국내 연구논문 중 张爱玲과 『傾城之戀』의 연구를 참고 하였으며, 필자는 자크 라캉의 욕망이론 속 개념을 바탕으로 분석하였다. 『傾城之戀』 속에서는 라캉의 욕망이론 속 개념으로 설명이 가능한 세가지 단계가 존재한다. 두 주인공이 자의식과 결핍을 확인하는 상상계, 다음으로는 홍콩이라는 공간에서 서로를 욕망의 대상으로 인지하는 상징계, 마지막으로는 결혼에 도달하는 실재계로 투박하게나마 구분할 수가 있다. 욕망이론을 적용한 소설의 명확한 단계별 구분은 어렵지만 변화하는 인물의 심리에 중점을 두고 작품을 분석하였다. 张爱玲은 결핍된 인물의 심리를 섬세한 색채묘사와 모순되는 표현을 통해서 드러냈다. 또한 상징계·실재계는 고정적이지 않고 인물의 무의식 속에서 계속해서 변화하고 또 다른 국면을 맞이한다. 남성은 다시 결핍을 채우기 위한 욕망의 굴레로, 여성은 그러한 남성을 보면서 해탈하는 모습을 보인다. 실재계 이후 해탈의 모습을 그려낸 것이야말로 张爱玲이라는 작가의 탁월함을 입증하는 증거라 할 것이다.

In this article, the writer aims at analyzing Love in a Fallen City (傾城之戀) by Eileen Chang with another reading method which focuses on a human psychology of lack. Bai Liusu(白流蘇) and Fan Liuyan(范柳原) satisfy each other’s lack for survival in their respective situations. However, both of them have different aspects in the conclusion where they reach their lacks and desires. For the previous literature about this, the studies about Eileen Chang and Love in a Fallen City (傾城之戀) in China, Taiwan and Korea were reviewed, and the writer conducted the research based on the concepts in Jacques Lacan’s Desire Theory. There are various stages available in explained by the concepts in Jacques Lacan’s Desire Theory. These could be classified into the Imaginary where both the protagonists, Bai Liusu(白流蘇) and Fan Liuyan(范柳原) knew self-consciousness and lack, the Symbolic where both of them recognized each other as an object of desire in Hong Kong, and the Real where they reached the stage of marriage. In spite of difficulties in the clear classification by phase in the novel through application of the Desire Theory, this article has a significance to analyze the novel Love in a Fallen City (傾城之戀) focusing on the changing psychologies of the characters by stage. Eileen Chang revealed the psychology of the lacked characters with detailed descriptions of colors and paradoxical expressions. And the Symbolicd and the Real are not fixed but continue to change in the characters’ unconsciousness, facing different aspects. The man falls into the bridle of desires in order to satisfy his lacks, again, while the woman rises above him. Drawing the image of liberation after the Real is evidence of the excellence of the artist Eileen Chang.
