오름을 통한 공간표현 연구

Abstract

끊임없이 변화하는 자연은 생동하는 하나의 생명체이며, 우리에게는 균형과 조화를 이루는 유기적인 관계로 편안함과 휴식이 있는 공간을 제공해 주고 있다. 제주 자연은 화산활동으로 인해 형성된 독특한 지리적·문화적 특징을 가지고 있으며, 한라산을 중심으로 산재 되어있는 오름은 신비롭고, 경이로운 자연경관을 이루고 있다. 시시각각 변하는 제주의 오름은 우리에게 미적인 감각을 주는 심미적 대상이고 여가를 즐길 수 있는 위락적 공간과, 예술적 영감을 떠올리게 하는 하나의 정신적 도구가 되어왔다. 본 연구자는 이러한 오름을 통해 기억 속에 저장되어있는 ‘순수기억’이란 조각들을 화면 속에 담아 공간을 표현하고, 제작한 작품을 바탕으로 오름 풍경에 대한 표현을 재해석하여 공간 표현방법을 분석 연구해 다각적으로 모색하는데 본 논문의 목적을 두었다. 본 연구를 위하여 문헌연구를 통한 동⋅서양풍경화의 흐름을 분석하였으며, 현대 풍경화 작가인 데이비드 호크니, 웨인 티보의 작품을 본인의 작품과 연관성 있는지를 조사 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 도출된 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 동⋅서양풍경화에 대한 조사 분석의 결과는 자연을 바라보는 관점이 상이성이 있음을 확인하였고, 현대풍경화에 와서는 작가의 작품을 통해 화면에서의 시각적인 관점이 독특한 풍경의 재해석으로 공간성을 표현하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 이러한 풍경화의 공간표현은 보는 관점이나 감정에 의해 표현방식도 다양하게 나타나며, 작가의 개성과 시각적인 관점으로 새로운 공간이 창출됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 셋째, 작품분석을 통하여 연구자가 표현한 제주 오름은 동양회화의 조형어법에 나타나는 삼원법과 여백 그리고 공기원근법의 표현방식이 적용됐음을 알 수 있었다. 특히 여백의 요소는 시선을 집중시키는 효과로 감상자와 연구자가 소통할 수 있는 공간의 의미를 내포하였으며, 화면에서의 공간은 어떠한 방식으로든 작가의 경험과 감정이 그대로 전달이 되어 공간표현을 다각적인 방면으로 표현이 가늠해짐을 알게 되었다. 이와 같이 제주 자연의 오름 형상을 지속해서 조형화한다면 풍경화에서의 공간성 창출에 대한 가능성을 확장할 수 있을 것이다.

The ever-changing nature is a living organism, providing us with a space of comfort and relaxation through an organic relationship that achieves balance and harmony. The nature of Jeju Island has distinctive geographical and cultural characteristics formed by volcanic activity, and the oreums the dialectic for mountain or peak scattered around Mt. Halla form a mysterious and wonderful natural landscape. The ever-changing oreum of Jeju Island has become an aesthetic object that gives us a sense of beauty, a recreational space where we can enjoy leisure, and a spiritual tool that reminds us of artistic inspiration. The purpose of this study is to create the space by putting the pieces of 'pure memory' stored in my memory through the oreums and reinterpret the expression of the oreum landscape to explore various ways of expressing space on painting. I analyzed the process of how Eastern and Western landscape paintings have changed through literature study and examined how my paintings are related to the works of David Hockney and Wayne Thiebaud. The results are as follows. First, there are differences in perspective between Eastern and Western landscape paintings, and in the contemporary art, the space is created by reinterpreting the landscape with different point of view. Second, the spatial expression in landscape painting is varied by the perspective and emotions with different expressions methods, and the characteristics of the artist and visual perspective create the new kind of space. Third, the expression methods of three-way method, blank space, and atmospheric perspective in oriental painting were applied to Jeju Oreum in my paintings, In particular, the blank space has an effect of drawing attention to the subject and implies the space where the viewer and the researcher can communicate. The space in painting can convey the experience and emotion of the artist through multilateral expressions. If the painting of the oreum in Jeju's nature is continuously created, the possibility of creating spatiality in landscape painting can be expanded.
