Factors of Daily life change affecting Health life and Mental health according to the Life cycle under COVID-19 Pandemic situation : based on the 2020 Community health survey data
Abstract
COVID-19 not only had a direct effect as an infectious disease, but also had various effects on community health through changes in daily life.
Under the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the differences in daily life changes by life cycle of study subjects, the difference in the impact of health lifestyle, and the difference in the impact of health life and mental health due to changes in daily life by life cycle are identified. Raw data from the 2020 community health survey were used, and out of 229,269 participants, 228,485 mental health respondents and 224,058 health lifestyle respondents.
Demographic and sociological characteristics include gender, age by life cycle, marital status, education level, and household monthly income. Health lifestyle includes smoking, alcohol drinking, breakfast, body mass index, walking practice, and vigorous physical activity, moderate physical activity. Mental health factors include subjective stress recognition, depression experience, and prevalence of depression. Data was analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics ver24.0.
First, there was a difference in daily life changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation according to the life cycle of the study subjects. In Young adult, physical activity, sleep time, instant food intake, delivery food intake, alcohol drinking, smoking, number of encounters changed the most.
Second, in all life cycles, gender, household monthly income, and marital status was proven as factors affecting mental health under the COVID-19 pandemic situation. In Young adult, changes in physical activity, delivery food intake, alcohol drinking and smoking turned out to be the highest risk factors of depression. In Middle-aged adult, sleep time and instant food were, and in Elderly public transit factor was found to be the highest risk factors.
Third, under the COVID-19 pandemic situation, factors that affect health lifestyle turned out to gender, monthly household income, marital status, education level, and changes in daily life due to COVID-19 in every Life cycle.
The risk of negative health lifestyle habits appeared to be lower in female than male in every life cycle. In Elderly, the risk factors were higher in having no spouse due to divorce, bereavement, separation, or being unmarried, and in Young adult they were a monthly household income of 2.99 million won or less and the education level of high school or less. Physical activity, sleep time, smoking, and number of encounters in daily life are the highest risk factors of negative health lifestyle in Elderly. Instant food intake, delivery food intake, and alcohol drinking were the highest risk factors in Middle-aged adult.
According to the life cycle, the Young adult group was more influenced by daily life than in Middle-aged adult or Elderly. The difference in the effects of changes in daily life according to the life cycle on health lifestyle and mental health suggests that the target person should be considered for each life cycle when implementing policies or systems for health lifestyle or mental health.
By actively utilizing various and more advanced national psychological quarantine programs, continuous support is needed to ensure that appropriate measures are take at the right time. This will allow the Young adult group can lead a health life as a healthy member of society.
