대학생이 지각한 가족기능이 우울에 미치는 영향: 자아분화의 매개효과

Abstract

본 연구는 대학생이 지각한 가족기능이 우울에 미치는 영향에서 자아분화의 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 분석 결과를 통해 본 연구는 대학생의 우울을 낮추기 위한 매개요인의 검증과 그 방법을 모색하여 대학생의 우울에 영향을 미치는 개인 내적 보호 요인을 규명하고 우울 예방을 위한 교육 및 상담 현장에 실질적인 자료를 제시하고자 한다. 이에 따라 가족기능, 우울, 자아분화를 변인으로 상정하여 우울에 미치는 주요 변인의 영향력을 검증하고자 한다. 이에 따른 연구문제는 다음과 같다. 연구문제. 대학생이 지각한 가족기능은 우울과의 관계에서 자아분화는 매개효과가 있는가? 연구 대상자는 전국의 대학생들을 대상으로 자기보고식 온라인 설문조사를 실시하였다. 자료수집은 2022년 12월 7일부터 12월 11일까지 약 5일간 이루어졌으며, 설문조사에 참여한 표본 총 376명 중 우울 정서 수준이 높은 대상자만을 선별적으로 보기 위해 우울 절단점을 기준으로 16점 이상인 우울 정서 수준이 높은 상태에 해당하는 241명을 본 연구의 대상자로 선정하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 18.0을 활용하여 기술통계, 신뢰도 분석, 상관관계 분석, Baron과 Kenny의 3단계 회귀분석, 마지막으로 Sobel Test를 실시하여 매개효과의 통계적 유의성을 검증하였다. 주요 분석 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 가족기능이 우울에 미치는 영향에서 자아분화는 완전 매개효과가 있음을 검증하였다. 즉, 개인 내적 보호 요인인 자아분화는 우울에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났지만, 가족 환경 요인인 가족기능은 우울에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 자아분화 수준이 높을수록 우울 정서 수준이 낮아진다는 것을 의미한다. 이는 가족 구성원의 역할을 재구성하고 가족 내 규칙을 재확립하는 데 어려움이 있는 대학생들의 우울을 자아분화를 통해 낮출 수 있다는 데 의의가 있다. 즉, 가족기능이 비록 낮더라도 개인 내적 보호 요인인 자아분화를 통해서 심리적 독립을 돕고 우울을 감소시킬 수 있다는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 대학생들이 가족으로부터 정서적 지지를 받지 못하는 상황에서도 자신의 우울을 스스로 인지하고 극복할 수 있는 개인 내적 보호 요인을 확인했다는 점에서 연구의 의의가 있다. 나아가 자아분화가 자신의 사고와 감정을 분리하고, 자신과 타인을 구분할 수 있는 심리적 독립성을 가지기에 우울을 감소시킬 가능성이 있다는 중요한 변인임을 검증하였다. 이러한 연구는 우울 정서 수준이 높은 대학생들을 위한 개인 상담 및 집단상담 프로그램 개발에 유용한 근거 자료가 될 것으로 기대한다. |This study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of self-differentiation on the relationship between family functioning and depression among college students. Based on the analysis results, this study aimed to identify the internal protective factors that affect depression in college students and to explore the mediating factors and methods to reduce depression. The study also aimed to provide practical data for depression prevention in educational and counseling settings. Accordingly, the present study aims to examine the influential factors on depression by considering family functioning, depression, and self-differentiation as variables. The research uestions are as follows. Research Question: Does self-differentiation mediate the relationship between family functioning and depression among college students? The study participants were college students nationwide who completed a self-report online survey. Data collection was conducted for approximately five days from December 7 to December 11, 2022. To selectively study participants who were in a depressive state, this study selected 241 participants who scored 16 or higher on the depression scale out of the total sample of 376 participants who completed the survey. These 241 participants were selected as the study's target population. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program to conduct descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, Baron and Kenny's three-step regression analysis, and Sobel Test to verify the statistical significance of the mediating effect. The main results of the analysis are summarized as follows. Self-differentiation has been confirmed to have a complete mediating effect on the relationship between family functioning and depression. These findings indicate that self-differentiation, which is an individual's internal protective factor, has a statistically significant impact on depression, while family functioning, which is a family environmental factor, was not found to have a statistically significant impact on depression. In other words, the higher the level of self-differentiation, the lower the level of depressive emotions. This finding has significance in that it suggests that self-differentiation can help reduce depression among college students who have difficulty restructuring their family members' roles and re-establishing family rules. Therefore, even if family functioning is low, it has been confirmed that psychological independence can be facilitated and depression can be reduced through self-differentiation, which is an individual's internal protective factor. These findings suggest the significance of using self-differentiation to alleviate depression in university students who have difficulties in redefining their family roles and reestablishing family rules. In other words, even if family functioning is low, psychological independence can be promoted through self-differentiation as a personal protective factor, which can lead to a reduction in depression. Therefore, this study has significance in that it identified personal internal protective factors that allow college students to recognize and overcome their own depression even in situations where they do not receive emotional support from their families. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that self-differentiation, which can separate one's thoughts and emotions and distinguish oneself from others, is an important variable that can reduce depression among college students. This research is expected to be useful evidence for the development of individual counseling and group counseling programs for university students who are in a depressed state.
