멀티미디어 자료를 활용한 영어 교수·학습 모형 연구

Abstract

급격한 IT활용 기술의 발달로 인하여 멀티미디어 자료를 활용한 교수-학습 활동이 학교 언어 교육 현장의 주된 교수법으로 자리 잡고 있다. 멀티미디어를 활용한 학습은 특히 학생의 자기주도적 학습 능력을 신장시킬 수 있으며, 교실 환경이 개선되면서 컴퓨터, 프로젝션 TV, 빔프로젝터와 같은 현대화된 수업 기자재라는 매체를 통하여 교사와 학생 상호 작용이 가능한 수업, 다인수 학급의 개별, 소그룹 탐구 학습이 가능하게 되었다. 따라서 멀티미디어를 활용한 교수-학습 활동 과정을 연구 검토하여 효과적인 활동 계획을 구안하는 일이 교사들에게 주어진 과제가 되었다. 멀티미디어 학습 자료를 활용하는 교수-학습 활동이 제대로 정착되기 위해서는 교사들의 적극적인 노력과 새로운 멀티미디어 교육 환경에 적합한 새로운 교수-학습 방법 개발이 필요하다고 본다. 특히, 언어 학습면에서 입시를 대비한 교사의 일방적인 문법 번역식 강의 일변도의 수업으로부터 다양한 멀티미디어 자료를 활용하는 입체적인 수업으로 전환함으로써 의사소통 능력 신장이라는 영어과 교육 목표에 부합하는 교수-학습 과정 모형을 연구할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 먼저 멀티미디어 학습에 대한 이론적인 고찰을 통하여 멀티미디어를 활용한 언어 학습 활동이 과연 영어 교육 목표인 의사소통능력 신장에 얼마나 효과적인지를 살펴보았다. 멀티미디어를 활용한 교육은 컴퓨터가 보급되기 시작한 1980년대부터 생긴 여러 교수 학습 이론을 탐색한 결과 학습자 중심의 자기 주도적 활동에 적절한 교수법이며 특히 영어를 학습함에 있어 실질적인 언어 환경을 제공하고 원어민 문화를 간접적으로 체험하게 해 주며 상호작용 학습이 가능하다는 점에서 효과적임을 알 수 있었다. 이에 따라 필자는 중학교 영어 수업시 멀티미디어를 효과적으로 활용할 수 있는 교수-학습 활동 모형을 구안해 보았다. 특히 듣기(listening), 말하기(speaking), 읽기(reading), 쓰기(writing) 영역의 능력 신장을 위한 활동 모형에 대하여 탐색하였다. 앞으로 급속도로 발전하고 있는 인터넷 환경 속에서 전통적인 학교 교육과정을 보완할 수 있는 IT를 활용한 교육이 언어 교육의 한 영역으로 점점 중요해 질 것이다.

Recently, teaching and learning English through the use of multimedia materials has become an important teaching method in schools on account of the rapid development of IT(information technology). Learning through multimedia especially helps students to develop their self-directed learning ability; the environment of a classroom newly equipped with computers, beam projectors, and projection TV, etc., aids students' interactions with a teacher more effectively, enables students to learn for themselves, and do small group learning activities. Therefore, making an effective teaching plan by employing the model for teaching and learning English using multimedia materials has become a great advantage to teachers. In order to make a model such as this effective and useful for teaching English, the teacher's sincere effort is essential, as is the development of a teaching plan which is suitable for this kind of multimedia education environment. Furthermore, it is necessary to study the model to aid in developing the specific goals of an English subject, the aim of which should be to help students develop their communicative competence by changing the teacher-initiated instruction to focus on a grammar-only translation of the lesson with various activities through multimedia. this investigation, judging from many theories from the 1980s, when computers began to be supplied, multimedia language learning has been found to be a proper teaching method for self-directed learning, very effective in providing a practical English learning environment, helpful in giving students an indirect experience of the native speaker's culture, and enables students to interact with each other. In the 4th chapter of this paper, I introduce how the model for teaching and learning English through the use of multimedia materials can be designed for use at the middle school level. Specifically, I investigate and present how the model of teaching and learning can be used to enhance language skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing. Due to the rapidly developing internet, educating using multimedia devices and IT principles will become more widespread and increasingly important as a method of teaching languages and various new uses for multimedia devices will continue to be developed and investigated.
