Abstract

Being healthy is a basic human desire, and with the increased attention for 'quality of life' and the adoption of the 5-Workday system, people have more time to spend on leisure activities and with family, and their interest in 'wellbeing' and 'wellness' has significantly increased. The popularity of wellbeing and wellness proves that more and more people, who are more economically stable, are realizing that 'health', 'rest', 'nature', and 'happiness' are the fundamental values in life, rather that physical wealth. As the desire to live healthy increases, the 'wellness' industry in the 20th Century Global Village has emphasized the 'global society' in which quality of life is a major focus, and such a new paradigm has also turned the 'wellness' trend into a social phenomenon. Moreover, the demand for psychological and physical health in the eco-friendly environment and self development has also gradually expanded. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to establish the Jeju-style Wellness Park by analyzing domestic and foreign wellness tourism and similar examples of wellness parks to establish a unique wellness tourism environment compared to advanced tourism countries and cities. In order to establish a Jeju-style Wellness Park, first of all, prior studies on medical tourism and wellness have been reviewed to scholastically establish the concept of a wellness park, and then the status of wellness tourism construction and it's implications were studied by analyzing domestic and foreign examples. Next, the status of planned land was analyzed, and wellness park planning factors are induced to improve those factors appropriately for the land and to establish the appropriate Wellness Park for the environment on Jeju Island. When planning a Wellness Park, it is necessary to provide various facilities and programs, for both long and short-term stays, by planning not only the fundamental facilities but also the overall space for guests. Furthermore, it is necessary to offer programs that have been selected by and are managed by experts. In addition, the park must reflect changing lifestyle trends to continue the wellness status, offer psychological and physical health management, and continuously learn about such health management to pursue the total care concept. The health service facilities at the 'Wellness Park' should have a pleasant landscape, have a surrounding environment that can be utilized for its programs by associating the natural and artificial resources, and should minimize the factors that cause boredom in guests. The Wellness Park space should guarantee that guests will find rest and be recharged, and its beautiful nature and comfortable image should provide the feeling of privacy, unlike most resorts and hot springs. For this study, planning factors for facilities and programs have begun by introducing the social interest in health management and domestic and foreign examples, also sufficient data and a planning direction have been laid out for a health service facility on Jeju Island called 'Wellness Park'. As a result, a Wellness Park that harmonizes 'nature', 'health', and 'tourism' with the theme revolving around the natural environment and health of Jeju Island is planned for the Ora Tourism area, which has the appropriate conditions for a Wellness Park. An eco-friendly and humanitarian scale have been adopted for the Wellness Park, as well as various facilities and programs that are focused on increasing the health condition of the guests. Guest demands regarding the purpose of use and types have been estimated and applied to the development scale, and the existing geography and environment will be preserved at its maximum to adhere to the atmosphere of Jeju Island. The Wellness Park will be divided into 'Health Improvement Zone', 'Experience Zone', 'Commerce Zone', 'Wellbeing Recreation Zone', and 'Lodging Zone' according to each function, and the plan will emphasize each function and space. The terms 'Wellbeing' and 'Wellness' are well known in Korea, and have became the most interesting fields. Moreover, since the tourism industry is expected to expand, establishing a tourism area with the subject of wellness will be very meaningful. Through this plan, for the successful adoption and development of a Wellness Park on Jeju Island, experts in the areas of medical, beauty, leisure, and leisure sports should provide more realistic and effective customized programs to circumvent the facility-oriented plans and programs of the past, and to provide and establish a delightful space for professional health management.
