헨리무어 작품에 나타난 조형이념과 공간성에 대한 연구

Abstract

1, 2차 세계대전과 산업혁명 이후 급속도로 변화하는 산업문명의 발달 속에서 자연훼손과 인간성 상실에 대한 심각성은 크게 대두되었다. 이에 대한 심각성을 일찍부터 인식해 온 많은 예술가들은 그들 나름대로의 영역을 토대로 인간성 회복을 위한 문제를 경각시키고자 노력하였다. 이러한 시대에 헨리무어의 휴머니즘적이면서 인간과 자연을 연결하려는 유기적인 공간성의 요소는 현대조각의 흐름에 있어 중요한 수단이었다. 본 연구는 헨리무어의 인간 사랑과 자연에 대한 조형적 이념과 공간성을 중심으로 그가 표현하고자 했던 작품경향을 살펴보았다. 첫째, 1898년 7월 30일 영국의 북부요크셔(Yourkshire)주의 캐슬포드(Castleford)에서 광부의 아들로 태어나 어린 시절의 경험과 중, 장년에 이르기까지의 조각의 영향을 연구하였다. 둘째, 헨리무어가 살았던 암울한 시대적 배경을 바탕으로 미술사적 흐름을 분석하였다. 셋째, 헨리무어의 조형적 이념에서는 자연주의, 인간과 자연의 조화, 아프리카 원시미술의 관계를 연구하였다. 넷째, 헨리무어의 작품세계를 형태별로 와상, 모자상, 가족상, 동물조각으로 분류하여 인간성과 공간성을 비교하고, 인체에 대한 표현과 재료, 작품의 영향 등을 중점적으로 분석하였다. 다섯째, 연대별로 나타나는 작품세계에 관하여 작업배경과 발전과정을 분류하여 보았다. 본 연구에서는 헨리무어의 작품을 통해 나타난 조형적 이념과 조형적 요소 중 큰 비중을 차지하는 공간성을 통해 분석하여 현대조각에 미치는 영향에 대해 규명해보았고, 새로운 시각에서 재해석하여 보았다. 또한, 헨리무어의 작품세계를 통해 상실되어버린 인간의 모습을 되찾고, 오늘날의 우리가 유념하고 생각해 볼 문제를 작품의 특성에 나타나는 인간성과 공간성을 통하여 현대 사회의 모순에 대한 치유책을 전달하는 동시에 자연의 소중함과 생명존중, 인간존중의 뜻을 전달하고자 한다.

The issues regarding the loss of humanity and the damage of nature have been steadily raised in the rapid change of industrial civilization since the first and second world wars and the industrial revolution. Many artists who recognized these issues have made great efforts to restore the lost humanity, based on their fields. In this era, the elements in systematic space Henry Moor tried to connect human with nature are said to be one of the most important means in the trends of modern carving arts. This study deals with Henry Moore's tendency of his works, based on his idea of formation towards nature and humanity. The first part contains his biography and its effects on his works influenced by the experiences of his childhood and youth; he was born as a miner's son on July 30, 1898 at Castleford in the northern Yourkshire. In the second part, the artistic trends in the historical background Henry Moore lived in are analyzed. The third part deals with Henry Moore's idea of formation regarding the relationship between naturalism, the combination of nature and humans and African primitive arts. The fourth part does the study of classifying Henry Moore's works into horizontal sculptures, mother-child sculptures, family sculptures and animal sculptures to compare humanity and space. It also deals with the analysis of expression and materials regarding human bodies and influence on works. Lastly, his background and the procedure of his work development are classified by chronological period. In summary, this study deals with the influence of the idea and formative elements of Henry Moore's works on modern sculptures, turning a new spotlight to his works. Additionally, this study tries to restore the disappearing humanity through Henry Moore's works and devise a remedy of the conflicts and contradiction of the modern society through his humanity and space.
