The purpose of this study was to examine the levels of traumatic eventexperience, self-disclosure, social support and post-traumatic growth ofintensive care unit nurses and their relationships. Also it was to providebasic data for developing programs to promote post-traumatic growth ofintensive care unit nurses.By using a self-reported questionnaire, data were collected from 142 nurseswho had worked for more than 3 months in six general hospitals, J provincefrom August to September, 2020.Traumatic event experience was measured with an instrument developed byJo (2014). The DDI, translated by Song & Lee (2013) was to measureself-disclosure. The PRQ-Ⅱ, edited by Kim(2000) was used to measureindividual support. The Organizational support scale, modified by Kim & Kim(2011) was used. The korean version of the PTGI, validated by Song et al.(2009) was used to measure post-traumatic growth.Collected data were analyzed by using the program SPSS version 22.0 inwhich descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlationcoefficient and Multiple regression. The results of this study were as follows:1. The sum score of traumatic event experience of the subjects was 28.20.The sum score of self-disclosure was 43.85. The sum score of individualsupport (82.85) was higher than that of organizational support (45.38). Thesum score of post-traumatic growth was 47.08.2. The traumatic event experience was significantly different in the type ofICU. The surgical ICU was higher level of traumatic event experience thanthe medical ICU. The individual support was significantly different in thegender. The organizational support was significantly different in the genderand the type of ICU. The medical ICU was higher level of organizationalsupport than the surgical ICU. The post-traumatic growth wassignificantly different in gender.3. The post-traumatic growth was found to correlate significantly withself-disclosure, individual support and organizational support. Factorsinfluencing the participants of the post-traumatic growth were individualsupport and organizational support. Theses factors explained 31.8% of thevariance of ICU nurses' post-traumatic growth.Based on theses results, this study suggests the following:1. Research is needed to develop programs and investigate their effects sothat self-disclosure can progress to post-traumatic growth.2. Studies are needed to test the relationships with various variants usingadditional navigation for the variants that affect post-traumatic growth.3. In this study, it is not possible to determine whether men usedproblem-centric coping to increase post-traumatic growth than women, somore specific gender-specific studies are needed in the future.
